View Full Version : CHaracter: Head Modeling Test

Hiya gang. I've been going through some stuff at home and to take my mind off things I've started to really sink my teeth into poly modeling. I was supposed to be finishing my first GMAX model of Quetzalcoatl but decided I should learn edgeloops before attempting a snake's head. So, I opened up GMAX and got to work, deciding not to shoot for a low res head the first (well...second) time out. Here's the result:

As I hinted at earlier, this is my second head made in a MAX based program and my fourth poly head ever made (including some LWDE ones). I think I'm finally starting to grasp it but I need to know if it seems like I'm getting the whole edgeloop thing or not. I'd appreciate all the help I can get. Thanks. Started work on the mouth but it's not quite ready for prime-time yet. I'll post it after a little more tweaking.

well, I kind of wanted to know if I was doing this right or not before continuing but I guess I'll just have to learn the wrong way before someone will tell me the right way. Thanks for viewing anyway.

Well, the mouth I originally was working on turned out to be a dud due to some poor vertex placement before starting it (it was all boxy-like). I decided to start from just before I made the mouth and went ahead to add a neck/under jaw. I then tweaked the mouth area so it will flow more naturally when I finally give him a mouth. The eyebrows, I've noticed, are sticking out a little too far so I'll have to move them back. Anyway, this is where I am. I still need to know how my edgeloops are looking but I'll wait to see if I get any feedback at all before bothering to put up the current wires.

Have you seen this head tut by Wiro? It's great for getting a handle on edgeloop flows. I realize you're doing a radically different type of head, but the general edgeloop flows can be adapted:
