Using the Vertex/Face selection mode you can control object characteristics at a very fine level. You can change the characteristics of a vertex on a particular face without modifying all the faces connected to the vertex.
is what it says in the help files
duh!!! but waht does it do.. I am confused as well... what are the "characteristics" that you can change and more importantly "why" would you want to change that?

ahh, that makse sense . i would use this i guess before i merged vertices, or if i had to break some up, yah that is useful. wow all this time i never knew. i really appreciate thanks.

Well I RMB vertices/faces . select a vertice.. It shows up yellowed.. now what do i do.. or rather what can I do? I can only get the rotate icon. Nothing in attribute editior. What am I supposed to use that Vetrtexfaces thing for now?

oh, i havent tried it yet. if i find soemthing out ill post back on here.
hehe.....same here, can select some vertices but that's it. But let me know what you can do with this :)
you can change the color and the normal of a vextex face

only meaningful use i found for it is when im looking
for double faces or edges that are supposed to be merged
that are not....
other than that, i think its pretty useless
Yep it's your main tool in adjusting 'vertex' normals [as opposed to face normals which can be adjusted in face mode]
Have the component editor open when you're in vertex face mode, switch to the 'adv. poly' and see how the x , y , z normals are detailed.
Also as Klod said, the other main use is to let you paint 'hard' vertex colour edges on geometry. You can unweld verts to get the hard edges but using the vertex face mode does it automatically and easier.
Again, look in the component editor for the specific RGBA values.

yah, that makes sense. thanks eveyrone.

but it appears that you cannot paint the hard edges using the paint vertex tool....or? u can only use the component editor for that....which seems quite dull

Thanks Bliz and all :bounce: Its all very clear now :) and yes it seems we have to use the component editor only to apply different RGB values. :hmm: ...or is there a work around? Alias could add something in the mask tab there in the Attribute Paint tool..ahh where is the wishlist??
