i want to create a animation of falling rain drops,
like this,

how do i do this, i already have made a start but i'm stuck at making the rain.

interesting questions...i've tried this "rain in the light" thing but that's really depending on the background color you use...but with a black background i'd use deformed spheres (very deformed ones ;)) and put some semi transparent shader on it (so that the rain stays visible) to enhance the "in the light" effect i'd use some pretty big but not too strong glowlights.
also it depends on how far the rain will be from the camera and if you want to use depth of field
the variation options of the emitter should be set differently and quite high !
quite difficult question i was hjopefully able to help you a little bit (metaballs are crazy for such actions ;))

hmm
well creating those raindrops isn't hard to do, but it's the animation part which is the problem
i can't find a way to make it work
