Here's a little something we did earlier this summer. First we where assigned to do a series of prints with wooden birds, similar to what you'd find in a gift shop, but with a twist. This was to a campaign for boat cruises in the Swedish/Finnish archipelago. We then came up with an idea; wouldn't it be nice to have the birds in the workshop with a handheld camera (and for all us CG geeks it would pay homage to the famous Arnold test render with Pepe by Daniel Martinez Lara a few years back). The customer liked the idea and here's the results:

All was done in Maya, rendered with GI in Mental Ray. Composited in After Effects and on Avid DS/HD.

I love the way the bird moves, and the how the camera is filmed by hand.
With what software has this been created?

Nothing more to say :applause:

I'm sure that there was a deep philisophical meaning to the text, but I'm not fluent in Swedish ;) .

Amazing animation, love the camera movement. Did you use matchmover?

Thanx guys!
This was all done in no-time, basically. Some of the prints where due in a week. The films where due in about two weeks, I think. And only two guys worked on it. They did a fantastic job in my humble opinion (I didn't work on it myself;) ).

If you want to see the prints they're over here. (http://www.fido.se/cgi-bin/Media_Archive/imageFolio.cgi?direct=000Print/009Viking_Line_-_Sommar)

Thanks for the plug!:)
I won't go translate what the speaker says, but the radio blasts out an irresistable offer about archipelago cruises, which the birds are reacting to.

Who are you, god?...
No, just his kid brother.:p

Very nice clip, I prefer the mallard clip personally but the one thing I find strange is the caustics on the back wall where the tools are... But it does have a nice feel to it, I guess it could be a boat house or something ???

Hi~~thats a great movie ,great render.

that is a big sence, how many layers did you seperate in render??
using GI in animation, the GI is not stable.how did you solve this problems?

thx

Nice to see this and the milko cow posted on cgtalk!
I was one of the people who worked on this for fido film so maybe i can answer some questions,
The birds and the rocks are the only cg in the movies. we used hdri with mentalrays final gather to integrate them. Glad you liked it!

GrafOrlok
06-18-2003, 08:05 AM
Yes, Joel was the actual key person on this project. He did most animation with additional help from Robert Ives, who was our intern at the moment. He also did all shading and texturing and also rendering. Kenneth Nyman did all the modelling.

Great work dudes:beer:
