I actually consider this a second stage concept piece but hey what can you do. My next step is to take the piece and do a more realistic painterly loose style. I will do away with his pony tail and comic look. I will also add a bit more steampunk to the piece and monkey up his pauldrons and knee pads and overall character. Not sure atm on the background have some options I am working out overall this is maybe a 1/4 of the way into my work. Suggestions anyone?

My version of the Steampunk Monkey King Work in Progress. Thinking about adding some more steampunk gadgets to his flying stick and some sort of steampunk influenced factory or industrial setting among the monkey ruins below. Now I will go into detail and attempt to bring the piece together a little more. Any thoughts?

It is definitely coming along very nicely! I see you are quite good with your characters, so I think you will do well! As mentioned, more steampunk elements would be great... maybe in his costume? I'm not sure what other things he carries with him besides the staff. Maybe work on his face also? He looks less monkey king, more gnome or leprechaun (to me anyhow). But you are doing awesome so far!

thanks for the feedback I am working on what you said. I agree his face needs to be more monkeyish so I am playing around with that apsect of his character as well as what path to take on the steampunk add-ons. His legend says he travels along the clouds so I might give him a boba fett style back pack. Dont know yet just a thought. What do you think about making his face an iron type monkey mask?

Ive added the iron mask as it goes along with the legend that speaks of him having a head of iron. I've also added a few gadgets here and there. The legend speaks of him traveling on clouds so I gave him a steam jet back pack to get him around. Time has grown sparse so I am doing what I can when I can. I would like to tighten this painting up a whole lot more but not sure when that is going to happen anyways thought I would share what I have done to date.

Monkey King is from the chinese legend. Monkey King Steampunk was created using photoshop and painter. The monkey king's legend spoke of his method of travel as clouds. Here he is seen flyling on clouds created by a portable steampunk jet pack over ancient monkey city ruins. His mystical staff has been converted into a guidance system for his jet pack. His tail has been converted into a mace -like weapon.
