View Full Version : How to make an instace to a real copy
DELTAadmin 06-16-2003, 06:47 AM How can I make an Instace to a real object, without the same shape node with the original one.
My I ask it this way: how to unshare shape nodes?

There is no quick and easy way of doing this. All you can do is to duplicate the original object without instancing. You will have to redo all transformations you may have done to the old instances.

The same conclusion I had to make, but it seems very strange for me, for Maya is known to grant acces to all its nodes.
If u make an istance in an other app (for4 ex: C4D) u can easily convert it to a real object on demand.
I think there should be some mel command to do it, can anyone descript it?

why not just duplicate the instance and then delete it?
Try this:
1. Make a sphere
2. Duplicate it with instancing turned on, and move it somewhere else.
3. Pick the instanced sphere
4. duplicate it in copy mode
5. delete the instanced sphere
Couldn't be easier.

If you download bonus tools from the A|W site it gives you an option to convert instance geometery to a "real copy".

Yeah, bonus tools contains a command: convert instance. Just a click.
How stupid I was, not looking into here for the solution.
