The idea of a steampunk little red riding hood came yesterday to my mind.
I tried to define the character, but I'm not sure if it's a good idea to work on...

I like the concept so far, but maybe you want to add more steampunk-things to her? A steampunk-wolf or something like that? :applause:

So far I'm only doing character creation: I will soon post some sketches of the illustration.
I'm not completely satisfied with what there's in my mind...

Good choice! It would be interesting to see how you will develop this character.

Nice concept too! Only tip I could give is to make the cape and hood more prominent.:)

Little red riding hood taking some action!
Liked it! Very stilish! Like the BB Hood from the game Darkstalkers!
Can`t wait to see the big bad mecha wolf!

It has been a very busy week! But finally I have time to post something new.
I decided that red riding hood it's not the right choice, so I worked on another idea: the four horsemen of apocalypse.
Maybe it's not an orginal idea, but I find it fits better with the challenge.
So, here's a quick rough sketch... others will follow.

...and of horsemen. This is War!

I also decided how Death and Pestilence will look like... I'll post them soon.
I'm working on Famine.

I love this theme, the 4 horsemen would be one of the greatest ones for a steampunk version! well done Sara! and your concept work is awesome so far :) will be following your thread ;)

This is how war will look like in the final image.
I'm creating each of the 4 horsemen separately, then I'll make a clear drawing over my sketches and finally I'll scan them and I'll put them together.

After these steps I'll be ready to color :)

Nice start, especially liking the sketches, red riding hood could be a cool theme as well, since you can approach the concept in many different ways, i'm sure this will look awesome when it's finished, haven't posted anything yet, i should really get started on my entry..!

Now I'm ready to put some color around...

I'm not sure whether the characters look "steampunkish" enough...
Any advice or crit?

Added a few elements in the background.
I'm beginning to experiment with colors.

I feel I'm on a dead end with the 4 horsemen: I'm not able to be satisfied with the results; I tried to build the illustration in a way that it's not my usual one... and it doesn't worked.
I suppose I'll finish the work, but it will take time and plenty of work.
So in the last 2 days I worked out a different idea, I'm working on it and I'll use it as my entry for the challenge. Sorry for the sudden reverse!
Here's my final subject: The Monster of Loch Ness.

Here I added more details and I began to decide the color palette.
It will definetly be a night scene.

I made a bit of a mess with my last submissions...
This one is nearly the final version...
Added textures and other effects (like fog and light).
It's nearly finished: I like the armosphere, but I'm not sure whether to add something on the left bottom corner...

Title: Deep in Loch Ness

Story:
- "I'm pleased to show you our work sir: the 'Hydralius'. Tests here in the lake are over, in a few days it will be transported to open sea."

- "Really impressive, mister Rutherperd. Will it be safe to sail in it?".

- "Surely, sir. It can stay underwater indefinitely, and is equipped with every kind of comfort a gentleman could ask for. The government will not regret the decision to fund the project."

- "Well. Me and some other gentlemen will love to give it a try. We'll organize for the next week, if you like.
And for goodness sake, remember, mister Rutherperd: it's top secret project, we need not to give explanation about sea monsters..."

- "No need to worry about it, sir: no one will even get a glimpse of it!".

Ha, I love this cutout illustration style you've used for the piece. I'm not really sure the hand in the lower left actually works though.

SynthOrange, I'm not sure about the hand too... but I decided to upload anyway, for I was running out of ideas :p

It has been great to participate: I saw many beautiful works and I learned a lot from them (it's great to follow step by step evolution of masters).
Good luck to all of you ;)

beautiful style. Very lovely feeling, this picture.

I feel like it was a good decision to break up the work on the horsemen. Your painting is a refreshing contrast to those massive action and horror images one can find in this contest.

I hope you'll get rewarded therefor.

Best of luck!

What a fantastic style. It looks like could be animated too. I think you should finish your four horsemen sketch as well. Its was going really well I thought.

Very original style, which is excellent for the story you are trying to convey. Before I read what the theme was about, I imagined a children's tale, so I think you manage to transmit the style perfectly. Good luck! :)
