First of all, forgive my poor english. Lets see if I can explain myself.
I am doing the credits of a short film and I want to do the following:
The actors names must be filled with metallic parts (maybe studs or something similar). One by one, each stud appears in a letter until the whole letter is complete with metallic objects, and the same with the rest of the letters of the name. Do I have to use masks, textures?

Also, these metallic parts are hitting the background (a still image which represents some kind of cloth on a table) when they appear. So I have to simulate the movement of these surfaces (cloth over a hard surface, the metallic part and the whole letter) when each beat happens .

Any ideas to star with?
THANKS

I'd simply shoot whatever BG animation you require, then use the text as a matte. shouldn't be too difficult, given that the ingredients are easily available.
