Hi guys, I'm doing a scene where the room is dark except for some filtering light coming through a set of windows at dusk and a single "dim" lamp in the far corner of the room. I'm satisfied with the lighting coming from the lamp but I'm having a hard time getting a realistic glow emitting from the lamp shade itself. I've tried making the shade a light object, using the glow and luminance channels all with poor results so far. Any ideas? Thanks!

BhudiNut Banji in the Luminance channel is the way to go.
Add some transparency and you should be set.

hmm, maybe try a little volumetrics in the light, and also try using the "glow" post effect (this is different from the standard glow in the materials and needs ot be added within teh effects section of the render setting dialog). used correctly it really is very effective.

yeah volumetrics with the shadows unchecked shoud work

just use the volumetric light for the surrounding light and then shadows for the other part of the light.

Try the 'glow editor' tab, in the lights dialog box.

Let's you create every kind of glow... And more...

You could pick out the lamp from the scene file available on this page to see how it works.

Thanks everyone! I will give these a try. My problem has been trying to keep the majority of the room lit by only the twilight filtering in thru the windows with just a small corner lit by lamplight. Thanks again for the help!

ohh thats simple. just clip your lights. use clipping under the details tab for your lights.

Thanks again for the help! This seems to be the best I could come up with. Banji in the lum. channel seemed to work best for this one. I'll tweek the lighting some more as I go along. This is just a small area of the scene so it looks a bit dark. Now I'll start adding the other furnishings.
