When I saw the theme this year, I decided that there was just too much to do with this subject to pass up.

Here is our theme, where we took it to the storybooks.

Snow Black

Project Idea: We will be using the traditional idea of the fairy tale Snow White. To put a steam punk twist on this, however, our girl is Snow Black. She is not a princess hidden away in a cottage, but an inventor busy in her workshop. The woodland creatures who help her with her daily chores are mechanical and of her own creation.

There will also be a take on the dwarves, though instead of Dopey there may be Dumpy, also one of Snow Black’s inventions.

This project will draw inspiration, though not directly mimic, the Walt Disney version of the story that we all love so much. Snow is still sweet and young, just very involved in her work. She is more likely to be found covered in dust with a welding iron than singing in the forest.

Our team is a small team, so we are going to keep this project simple. For our end presentation, we aim to show the simple scene of Snow working in her shop.

There will be the setup: an outdoors shot of her workshop in a forest, traditional storybook style.

Then the cut will be to the interior showing the various woodland creations, steampunked out.

When we see Snow, she will be hard at work. The focus will be more on her workspace and inventions.

There will be a knock at the door, and behind it a boy prince with an apple, just as dirty and interesting as Snow herself.

What we want to end up with is not so much a trailer, but a small piece of the story. Ali Volkmar, an artist on our team, has already created our concept, which will be posted here shortly.

Good luck everyone. This is going to be a good competition!

This is some of the beautiful concept done by Ali Volkmar, one of the artists on our project.

More WIP will be coming soon.
