I am trying out the new indirect lighting options in mental ray with Maya 2009 and I have been having some issues that I was hoping someone could help me understand.

Here is a test render that I did and the problems I am having:

1. Weird spots are appearing around the feet.

2. Strange vertical lines are appearing all along the edge of the geometry.

3. The indirect light isnít making it into the interior of the leg here (there is plane of polys on both sides of the spring with a mia_x thin-walled glass shader assigned to them, but the irradiance particles do not seem to be making it through).

I rendered with the following settings:

Importons
Density: 5
Merge Dist: 0.0
Depth: 2

Irradiance:
Rays: 512
Passes: 4
Interpolate: Always
Interpoints: 64
Env Rays: 512
Env Scale: 1

So does anyone know what I should be doing/changing to fix the problems that I am having? Any sort of explanation for how to better tune the settings would also be much appreciated.

...Anyone?

Did I miss some massive topic on this or something? I searched the forum and I didn't really notice anything specific like this (I think)...

Search the "Importons and Irradiance Particle" thread maybe you can find something!
In that thread they talk about a problem with transparent shadows. It seams that importons and irradiance particles, by now, can't reach a surface beyond a transparent material.

generally speaking great mia shader are not fully supported by maya 2009, they are not even visible in new rendering passes system and Importons and Irradiance Particle are also new rendering technique. so I think, `cos i did some rendering tests, weird artifacts are cosed by unsupported mia shades. sad bad true.
