Anyone ever gotten a w2k blue screen on bootup with an NDIS.sys error? I suspect it has something to do with networking (I was in the middle of installing a new firewall) but even in safe mode I can't seem to figure it out. Normally this wouldn't be too big of a deal, but this little system is my license server for lots of my apps.

NDIS is most certainly a networking thing. it's the file that does most of the software translation from your betwork card's driver to the application what sort of firewall were you installing? sounds to me like you've installed a software firewall and either some of the files haven't installed correctly, or they did and were deleted manually and not via the uninstall utility.

try rebooting in safe mode, and uninstalling the firewall. reboot again and re-install the firewall fully. don't run any other apps or programs in the background while you are doing this. most software firewalls try to add a layer below NDIS, or patch NDIS so that they are in control of the networking. removing the firewall incorrectly leaves open hooks on your NDIS which can cause all sorts of dramas.

oh, one other thing: if you're still stuck, uninstall and reinstall your network card. try to force windows to overwrite the old driver and NDIS.sys files and that should clear you up.

there's a few people on the zonealarm forums with the same problems:
