Ok since it's already gonna be tough to complete the picture , I thought about a concept center on one character ...

So I chose the nordic legend of the Polar Kraken attack ... I made some research over the internet , and no illustrations really satisfied me as a base so I decided to throw a really twisted , mechanical , snaky thingy concept of the Kraken. I'm currently sketching some basics ideas , maybe I will post them later.
The composition test will be done with a 3d previz ...

Here's the basic idea of the Kraken. A mix between a big worm with arms , octopus tentacles on the neck and stomach , and a sort of shell on the back... and also a bird head ...

Hard to figure out all this stuff on paper , so I better get into maya to make a previz ...

Hey friends ,

Made a quick blocking rough to depict what I have in mind for the comp. Basically the huge monster coming out through the ice , attacking the boat ( in the right) . Depending on the time I will have , i may include some sailers breaking the ice with pickaxes to free their boat.

Hey. Great so far. I think if you lowered the camera a bit you would make th Kraken look much larger and more enforcing.

Looking good, a really nice concept with the bird head, although if I may say the Kracken looks very slow in the concept composition and rather like it's walking across the ice.. Which may be where you want to go with this, but I'd expect him to be smashing through the ice and reaching out for the boat, ice flying everywhere as the tentacles raise up and crash down. This would make a more dynamic composition I think. But this is all just a suggestion, I know you will do something really cool either way!

Ok, seriously, that would be a great source of inspiration, especially the final battle, really amazing, with tempest, pirate boats, and a Krakken of course!

I like your concept, but the boat is so tiny, I can't see Orlando or Johny Depp in it! what a pity!

Sorry for the infamous silence here , I've been completely stuck with some annoying but yet important stuff this past month , and unfortunately incapable to continue the challenge at all. I'm afraid that the following weeks won't get better which is killing me to abandon you guys once again.
