Just a small update - here's a shot of my storyboard, currently in progress ( there's a lot more but i cut out what seemed solid as of up to now and kept that for the screen shot...)

EDIT :
Forgot to mention, those red bars are blocking text and information regarding my transitions and shot compositions :P ( the pictures aren't exactly the positions/framing of the show, the text describes it more in detail but I decided to hide it for awhile, maybe until I actually finish the project - just to SOME surprises for you ;) .

...
Well, things have slowed down due to unexpected events -
About three weeks ago my grandfather was sent to the hospital after having fallen in his bathroom. He's doing better, physically, but mentally I fear that he is gone.. sometimes he seems to realize what is going on but most of the time he just seems totally out of it..

Today while at work, I received a call from the hospital telling me that my grandmother had been rushed into the Emergency Room.. so off I went - back to the Hospital ( and I HATE hospitals.. )

My mother ( whose parents, my grandparents, are at the hospital ) is out of the country and so is my father so here I am grandson in charge of all this..

Things have been a big mess, I'm feeling quite weak at the moment, kind of sick - and I have an Animation Mentor class in 30 minutes.. ahhh! ( I'm only in the Springboard, I start Class 1 in January ! )

... anyways -
All to say, while at the hospital, I took a few seconds to take some pictures of some wheelchairs, as well as observe the design, feel, and system.

I leave you with this WIP - not much seems to have changed but if you look closely enough you'll see that there has been quite a few modifications, I don't have much to post right now given all that's happening ( and there's more than just my Grandparents, god bless them! ) -

I'm currently working on the steam engine, the gears and pulleys and how it'll all make sense - so far I've got it worked out, and the front wheels are already rigged up with a few more things :)

I'll be working on it all weekend hopefully - so maybe then I'll have a bigger update!

very sorry to hear about your Grandparents. I hope things get better quickly.
Liking what you've got up here so far. Will be keeping a close eye on this thread

Irony can be bitter indeed sometimes. Here you are, with a magnifiscent centerpiece, and it's as if the world pulled strings to get you into a situation where you could really study what you're working on. I'm terribly sorry it couldn't be under better circumstances. Nothing good can be said about your situation, but you'll definitely be in a "jack the ripper" mood where your work is concerned.
Stay strong, plow through, and best of luck:sad:

Galvan , Rage -

Thank you for your kind words of support! There is no way I'm letting anything come between me and the completion of this project - I'm not saying I won't finish, simply that I've hit a slow note, but soon enough the pace will quicken up and I will change back to an active "Eighth Note" :)

The engine is almost done being built..
I know there is a lot of detail for nothing because most of it won't be seen from the angles I chose ( also given the fact that my project will have a very "stylized" look to it - but I wanted to go ahead and do it anyway; It has everything from the gears and controls and reservoir, the belts and tracks - all fully functional, it really is a steam-powered wheel chair.
When I'm done maybe I will put up pictures with diagrams and text explaining what each part is and does.

sorry to hear about your grandparents. Life is definitely a lot more important than a challenge. Do what you have to do and leave nothing to regret.

Best wishes to your family. If anything is needed, do let me know.

Thanks a lot for your kind words Jack.

..things have been getting better - and also, when I start something, I finish it, even if I don't finish it as well as I would have liked, I still kick myself in the butt to get things done!

Right now, I'm working on some rigging as well as environment modeling, I know we aren't supposed to link to other sites, but since CGTalk offers no way of hosting video, I leave you with this latest rigging WIP :

www.fbourque.com/r1.mov

The only thing animated in the scene is the selected cylinder, the rest is secondary animation, simplistic rigging...

Looking very nice. As mentioned before is that render style used above going to be your final sorta look? Looking very nice. I've been playing around with some toon shading kinda rendering techniques recently and would be keen to hear how you did such a nice line render

Just testing the overall look/style of the short.. Color hues shall be well, non existent - since black and white aren't colors and are going to be the only two in the movie, with accents of red every now and then here and there, " la Sin City"..

A plus!

I put together a combination of shaders and tracers that basicly render out my 3D models into 2d "Vector" style-looking pictures, so I'm using that as a base, and expanding on it.

The final style will be similar, very dark and gloomy.. blacks and whites with red accents here and there (in the sky also, maybe)

Hey Jack, hope you are doing good! How are your students this semester?
My sister initially wanted to lend a hand but she's far too busy with uni. finals and such, she helped me come up with the story concept as well as parts of the wheelchair whenever she had a chance to drop by!

I'll have alot of updates coming today and tomorrow since I have both days of work, so I can concentrate fully on my project! Time to get productive, so far not very good I woke up at Noon! I'm putting my alarm tomorrow for 6.

Great design on the chair!...try adding an mini engine on the back along with few Spark pugs and hoses. Would make the chair more mechanical

Good Luck!
