CGTalk - Hair Color Problems

I'm trying to get the right hair color, but it always seems to be too light. I tried setting the hair color to black, all of the selected colors to black, specular color to black, translucence to 0, and specular power to 0 and I STILL get a light gray color. I have one point light source with the default intensity of 1. Why is Maya doing this?

Alright, so my problem was I was using Final Gather with a white background which lit up all the hair. When I changed the camera environment color to black, it changed it.
