Does anyone have some book-recommendations about creating materials or material studies? There are so many artists outside, who know how to visualize materials like glass, different metals, plastics and of course skin. How do i have to develop my shader in order to obtain realistic results? It's really hard for me to to acquire this knowledge. An example of what I look for, is to be found here: http://www.neilblevins.com/cg_education/metal_and_refs/metal_and_refs.htm

Do a search here in this forum about books - you'll find some stuff :)

Unfortunately though, there are sadly not a lot of books out there on this subject... so you don't have much to choose from.

I am busy writing a book on texturing for LW (although it has a lot of generic texturing theory and painting stuff), after which I am wanting to write a book solely on painting textures in Photoshop (or painting programs in general really). I am hoping that more people will also start writing about this, because we need more skilled texturing artists around...

In the meantime, Blevins stuff is great and insightful reading. I always advocate the study of good, solid texturing theory, which is what Neil offers there on his site. Reading that stuff should get you an excellent grounding in the art.
