Hi,

do you have any suggestions on what editor to use best if developing renderman shaders?
Are there any plugins for eclipse, maybe (I didn't find any at first glance)

Thanks guys!!

Well there are at least 3 different software that can work effectively and all are either free or open source.

Shaderman and Shaderman.Next

SLer
http://ribkit.sourceforge.net/

Shrimp

I personally use the old Shaderman, which is for Windows, but have tried both Shaderman.Next and SLer. Shrimp is a revival of an old open source project that looks promising though I haven't used it.

Xemacs http://www.xemacs.org/ (using http://rib-mode.sourceforge.net/) and Vim http://www.vim.org are probably the most popular (and cross platform).

Personally I like nedit http://www.nedit.org with a customised version of the highend3d preferences from here http://www.highend3d.com/maya/downloads/tools/syntax_scripting/Nedit-Preferences-For-Maya-1386.html, but nedit only works on Linux.

Cutter http://www.fundza.com, SciTE http://www.scintilla.org/SciTE.html, JEdit http://www.jedit.org/ Textpad http://www.textpad.com Edit Plus http://www.editplus.com are also popular.

I don't know of any Eclipse plugins, but i'm sure it wouldn't be hard to add syntax highlighting (or just use C/C++/C#).
