ok i am not asking which one is better i am asking for a comparison if anyone knows.....how are they related how do they differ what can and cant be achieved....work flow is not an issue

workflow aside - maya particles allow for some more control over particle color. apart from that in terms of what can and can't be achieved there's little difference. well, apart from tp can do particle/particle collisions.

thanks for the answer......I thought i say that maya 5 has particle to particle colission....oh well more on why i am asking....i am a freelancer working for a studio that has maya right now....no body really knows much about 3d but i use c4d myself but no nothing about TP....so basically i can learn either package right now and just wonder what will be best to devote my attention

I believe maya particle is in that suite refered to as Maya Dynamics,..and from demonstration that i've seen;its very very powerfull.....i've however not played arround with TP,so i can't really compare.
But i know that the ease of use of MEL is what makes Maya stand out.

yeah you are right about the whole dynamics but i just didnt want to confuse the issue cause most people think of colission and friction and soft and hard body when you mention dynamics...is mel easier that what c4d uses cause i am an artist not a programer all languages confuse me.....i understand.....'to make straight line use ruler'

TP can handle dynamics simulations too, though its' rigid bodies is limited to particle/object, you can use COFFEE to help script particle behaviours, or just use expressions as you d in maya, or just use nodes. but these are all workflow, which i thought wasn't an issue here.

there are a few tp examplse on my site where i've made tp softbodies, tp objects shatter on collision (and rigidly bounce around), tp spawn on colision... all the usual suspects. tp is very capable, but it's not the easiest thing in the world.

yeah you are right about work flow to be exact you very much answered my question with the first responce you gave me....which you seem to always do an i really apreciate that
