Hello everyone,

This isn't something I'm currently working on, but I wanted to find out how I would create this. Do I take skin textures from human photos and tint them? If so, how do I avoid that repetetive skin texture look? You know, where it looks obvious that I used the same three 200 x 200 skin samples over and over again throughout the texture.

This is assuming it's an alien that isn't very human-looking, but has very similar skin qualities.

I'd start with more than a swatch of skin that's only 200x200 pixels. Human skin has a lot of variation anyways over the body in terms of color, texture, oilyness, etc. Grab a digital camera and start taking as many photos as you can. Then feel free to tint it, add strange variations like spots, whatever you think will help make it a little bit different.
