View Full Version : n00b help: Connecting Objects
Cube6 06-14-2003, 11:11 PM I can't seem to know how to connect 2 edges from two different objects together. I started on an eye for this (http://www.highend3d.com/maya/tutorials/xen/) tutorial and I dicided to make the nose separately because the tutorial didn't tell you how to make the nose. I think I did a good job but now I don't know how to connect the 2 objects :( . I've tried the merge edge tool but it won't let me do that, as some of you may already know.
Any help please? :D TIA.

You cannot connect two edges from two different PolyObjects, You have to merge them first. This is called combine.
If you want/need, delete history first. Merge Edges works only for border egdes, by the way.
But you will need the same numbers of "connecting"-faces on both objects.
Try also, after combining, the appent to Poyligon tool. For me, it works better, because you get an "inbetween"-face between the edges. In your case, i shouldn´t be needed
Here's how I combine the hands and ears of my char:
- Make sure the number of edges of both objects match
- Line up the vertices using the V key to snap to vertex
- Select both objects and choose polygons combine
- In display-custom polygon display enable 'border edges'
- Use edit polygons-merge multiple edges
- Check if the thick edges where the two objects merges have changed to normal edges.
There may be a better way of doing this but I'm somewhat of a newbie myself :)
Edit: Webster beat me to it :)
Hope this helps

If you have a different number of edges to connect (and want to keep the UVs where they are currently positioned), then manually use the 'merge edges' tool, after having first combined the objects into one , delete history, and also make sure that the normals of the to be connected faces (well, their edges) are facing the same way......
That gives you the option to move and sew in the UVTE later on.
