I think i am going to go for the Medusa Myth. medusas head - still working on the rest of the charater. the idea is based on after her head has been cut off by Perseus. she will have a robotic like arm attached to her head holding her up.

added the basic teeth and inside mouth. need to add detail to the head and texture it all.

hey there .

nice start i like the mechanical parts.

the head i dont like yet.
the way the jaw looks just isnt nice.
imagine what would happen when he closes his mouth!
the upper teeth would get slammed into lower gums
the lower teeth would get hammered into the nose.

when u open your own mouth you will notice that your lower jaw actually rather moves back than forth. also the edges of the mouth get pulled up.

i would also consider overworking the teeth and adding gums. they add credibility to a face.

the hard line beneath the eyes also sticks out.
when you look in the mirror and do that kind of facial expression youll notice that there will only be a hard line on the upper part not on both sides.

when you improve these things i think your medusa will improve a lot i think

thanks for the comment. i agree there is still more work to be done on the head as well as the details to the inside of the mouth. Still needs a lot of work ! i will try out some new size style teeth as well.

changed size of teeth - slight modeling done to inside of mouth - added more detail to the mechanical arm. added wires from neck and slight change to face.

some of the scene layout - might have a really industrial look in the bg?

took photos of the really cloudy day - composited the photos together in a way i thought might be appropriate to the image. added more metal.

textured the eyes using my cats eyes as a ref. Added more to the robot-style arm.

did some detail modelling and first texture for face. added large gas pipe in bg - needs more work as well as texturing.

hey iskander.

i already like the first texture wip
for the diversity of the skin you should have a good look at skin shading
beneath the blue skin you for instance could place some really red texture and just let it shine through a little when light hits.
it helps a lot i find.

but i think for the face you should slow down a little maybe.
i would personally first fix the proportions.

Thanks for the input. I had already alter the models jaw line slightly before but i have just refined it a bit more. I not sure how much more i want to edit it as i was kind of going for the odd look? kind of like the scream mask!

I can see what you mean though - from the link you sent i also need to add some more detail around the mouth (more stretch and wrinkles).

any more input is appreciated!

added the texture to the large steam pipe. had an idea for having large hands for the feet of the medusa? not sure if it is a good idea?

if it works the hand and the face will be the only organic parts of the body and the rest will be metal.

any comments

I have been trying to portray this it is just taking time to do so!:bounce:

hopefully the man in the foreground will be half metal and half human - as if he was in the process of turning to stone (or steampunk).

better texture on snakes head and metal body. I think i might change the idea of the hands as feet. the more i look at it the worse it looks - i think i will be better off having something mechanical for feet!

I will change the feet. I have been looking at it the past few days and could not work out till earlier what looked wrong. they seem to over power everything else and look chunky and out of place. Hope fully I will produce some feet that are more along the same line as the rest.

Cool concept. I think you need more snakes, it might make it a little more menacing, and add some more peril to the scene. Great start, looking forward to more updates.

this is a bit closer to the shape of the mans head that i am looking at. I will start to add the steampunk metal to the face soon.

modeling the base mesh of the rest of the body before i add the final sculpted details in zbrush. needs posing. For a texture on the jacket i am thinking of having a red pattern in one corner of the jacket - most prob the left (his left).

almost have the head and snakes attached to the body in a way i like and think works. have a lot to texture. all of the body that is made up of panels i have split so that i can either project textures on to them or perform planer mapping and texture in Zbrush - depends on time.

have added a few more textures. need the bodywork to have a closer and more uniform tone to the metal. maybe a little dark orange / yellow tint. face needs more work.

Your approach to the Medusa is great. I'm looking forward to seeing this thing come together for you. My only crit is that the color difference between Medusa's face and her mechanical body is a bit strong. Try getting a similar value to match the value of the body and it will be a bit more harmonious.

Wow! Nice work! Medusa looks really scary, especially face expression. Also this surrealistic background is pretty cool. But personally I would make snakes heads a bit bigger to make them more noticeable. Looking forward for updates. Good luck!

better bg. added missing fans and less saturation so that the foreground (Medusa) shows up better.

need to finish the texturing.

The combination on the face of the man is good! I'd say you only don't lose that combination face-skull in the final pose, to can see that in the final render.

I can finally see what the end product might look like. I still have quite a bit of work to do especially with the character in the foreground and some of the bg.

added more textures to the bg props. Trying to get everything looking right. need to better the texture for the ground close up - and maybe add some dust and rubble?

edited the fg man. need some more detail and textures on him. I also must finish the textures for the bg and medusa!!

I think there might be too much motion blur.

better placement of the snakes. added some movement to Medusa foot. added more textures and detail to Medusa but still need to finish the model.

the background is almost finished. all i need to do is add a few more details to the buildings. and texture the remaining pipes attached to the buildings.

I have almost finished working on the 3d elements to the scene. I will hopefully be starting the final comp and 2d elements soon.
