View Full Version : Wednesday Night Comic Creators Club 006: November 12- 18 2008
RobertoOrtiz 11-12-2008, 07:06 PM Hi guys, welcome to the Wednesday Night Comic Creators Club thread.
The idea of this series of week long threads is to be an incubator for your sequential
art ideas. This mean you can post ANYTHING that will facilitate the creation of your comic. (This means ideas, scripts, Concept Art, Finished art ) for:
One panel Strip
Three to Four Panel Strips
Comic Book
Storyboards (NEW!)
Think of it of a club within the forum for people who WANT to do comics.
GENERAL RULES:
Every Wednesday night a new week long thread will be posted on the CGTalk Daily Sketch Forum (http://forumdisplay.php/?f=130) called:Wednesday Night Comic Creators Club XXX: MONTH YEAR
This will be the CORE thread, created by the moderator, (that would be me)
You can post on the core thread anything you want as long as it related a to a sequential art idea
If yo ualready have a web comic, well SHOW IT to us..
WIP entries should be on the artists WIP thread. This thread might be hosted on the WIP forum OR...the Member SKETCH Collection (http://forums.cgsociety.org/forumdisplay.php?f=272)
This is a thread to allow creators to have fun so please feel free post your Comments
IF and only IF we gather enough interest we might start doing voting for:
Best Writing
Best Story
Best Art
Most Updates
Most Views (IE Highest ratings: I want to keep track on who has been getting the highest number of hits on the WIP thread for the comic...more on this later
Keep this in mind.
A monthly comic book has 24 pages. And in order to have enough material for a graphic novel you should need to do 6 issues of a comic.
24 * 6 = 144 pages
This is why most pros do a at least a page a day.
And please if you do comic book, do it in multiple of 2.
My advice, KEEP IT SIMPLE
If you think you can't to a full comic book, do a 3 - 4 panel
newspaper strip. 5 - 10 updates a month are more than enough in my book.
And if you are going to do a comic book, do short stories first , since they usually have
4 to 6 pages. Think Twilight Zone, Tales from the Crypt or Amazing Stories for inspiration.
Good luck

Greetings. I am working in webcomic based on an indie role play game in Spanish, the idea is to display short histories of several sketchers along with a main history, of which I will be in charge (argument, to coordinate artists, etc). As far as short histories, we are passing a call to several local artists although, of course, you are invited to hop in, if the concept catch your eye.
I already have the argument for one first story line. History concentrates in three Agents, souls of other planets that live in human body. Like in the game, one concentrates in a guerrilla war that happens in the cities, but this war has a spiritual level, of which the common human is usually oblivious.
Here I have a pair of the sketches that I have done, the design of personages will be in charge of another artist, these are conceptual.

This thread seems a great idea to me, any advice about the work a good quality webcomic entrails will be very appreciated. And, of course, once it is ready , I will put the link here :)

What sort of legal issues?
because the character Isn't mine, it's just my "version" of an already existing character. the story of course is all mine most characters will be mine, but i have a few that are well known. Just in my style. I would like to get it published. I have a good team here.
I do have another story that is mine and characters and all are my own creations, just i have to work on the story, but i want to do one thing at a time or i will never get anything finished. It looks like i should be starting with this one first. but o well.

I have been trying some techniques for my web comic...
Here is one of my experiments... ( I will upload a color version tonight)
The image called "ANIME " is an obvious riff on the Manga Appleseed.

@RobertoOrtiz
I really like the inks, I think the 'Briareos' looks more like a T-800, but the overall conept it's catchy. The webcomic is already on works?

the webcomic I have in mind is something original...
I am just trying the proper technique to do it..
Next I plan to scan in some old one page comics I did a decade ago and update them...

Cool thread idea Roberto.
It had been years and years since i'd done anything comic book. Recently however i the last couple of weeks i've been doing the P.O.W challenges over at conceptart.org. Its reignited my love for all things comic. Then FRENZIEDmind mentioned this thread so i figured i'd check it out.
I have had this idea in the back of my mind for a comic for a while. this thread may very well serve as the motivation to kick myself into gear.
I really hope this thread gets the traffic it deserves and grows into something special.

I've been starting work on a comic book of my own. Not sure about all the details just yet. I don't even have my story fully formed, but I've started on some of the design work, so I might be posting that here or in a WIP thread. Afraid I won't be getting the productivity anyone would like to see as I'm currently working, looking for another job or two, and trying to return to school. But for right now, my problem is too much free time and not enough money.

Good luck

This is so nice....but I guess what I do doesn't fit in any of the categories listed since I make short stories that go from 1 up to 10 pages :(

A comic-book can be anywhere from 3 to 48 pages long (any bigger and you get into the area of graphic-novels... which would still work here). Sounds like your 1-to-10 pages would be fine.

Ok then I'll Post this one short that I've made In 2006 since it's the only one that doesn't need translation. The title is "Playground".

Nice work Nekoi-chan. I don't understand what's going on. Is that dark figure a reaper or something?
My frenzied-minded, short attention-span lost interest in trying to figure out how to end the Pair-of-Dummies story arc (which seems to be a problem I have, ie: ending story arcs longer than one installment). So I illustrated (while watching Bleach) this character I've been developing. I'll use it as a promotional piece.

It's a pedofile. The reaper is the boy that is always killing pedofiles since he is attacted by all of them because the kid can't get out off the playground. I have to send the boy to kill the writer since no one understands this comic and I warned him it would happen and he didn't listen lool....

Cool comics guys, nothing from me this week, I'll hopefully be less busy next week.
@Nekoi: I thought the guy in the hat was a peodophile who killed the boy. I'm quite sure what went on.
@Frenziedmind: Cool character
@breeson: I really like the style of this comic. Cool characters. The animation was great too!
@Jelo: Nice work, funny instalment, as always

[QUOTE=Jelo]Yay! I'm happy I'm not a goldfish either way../QUOTE]I'm sure it's because I'm slow, and I know when you have to explain a joke it's ruined... but I'm not getting it. Is it because the fish has a perfect memory of his nothingness-life in a fish-bowl, and it's driving him nutz?
Hey Roberto, where's the surprise?
Thanks Windmill!

Hey Roberto, where's the surprise?
He never forgets, not like other ones with 5 sec of memory, thus gets mad in a (empty) fishbowl. but I may rephrase it as I'm still searching for the right words.

Actually the kid was the one who killed the pedofile because he is the one in the swings on the last frame.
