Wow, what a theme, I love it! The whole Age of Enlightenment and the Industrial Revolution after that has always been a great influence to me. The imagery as well as the spirit of the era. That, combined with 'Myths & Legends' makes for a great subject altogether!

My first thoughts on the concept:

"Daedalus & Icarus"
This of course is a very powerful and dramatic story in Greek mythology that lends itself very well for incorporating 'steampunk' elements. And the visual combination of 'copper' and feathers...yummy! However, I recon this is going to be a really popular subject so I'm actually thinking about shifting the attention to Daedalus. He was actually an 'scientist' and 'inventor'. He invented the labyrinth, the 'mechanical cow' that Pasiphaë used to 'trick' the Minotaur and he of course invented the wings to escape the grasp of king Minos (II).

"The Goat Riders"
This is a local legend about 'highwaymen riding on goats'. The legend stems from the eighteenth century. The Goat Riders are supposed to have worshiped the devil and raided farms and churches. This could be an interesting subject as well; the 'riders' on mechanical goats gallopping through the countryside or a small farmers' village.

"Hephaestus & Ares"
Ares of course was the God of war. He was (almost) always depicted wearing his 'battle dress' so he could be an interesting subject to hang some gears and pipes around him. Hephaestus is maybe a bit less known. He is the patron of blacksmiths. The combination could make a good combo/story. Ares could for instance be visiting Hephaestus in his workshop, inspecting some new weaponry or trying on some new armour.

Well, I now have a couple of good concepts to choose from. I will make a pick from these, work out the concept a bit more and than post my first concept sketches at the end of the week or the upcoming weekend.

Greetz!
