View Full Version : mirai wings and animanium..
campy22 06-14-2003, 04:34 PM hey.
has anybody heard anything about that new software that's called animanium?
it's coming out very soon and looks kick butt!
i've heard that it is tied in with some of the mirai guys, but that's all i know.
my thoughts are .. is wings going to be compatible with it?
it seems that the last piece wings needs is a complete animation tool set that is as easy to use as wings's modelling system is.
anybody has thoughts or info on that?
i mean, on animanium, and it's relation to wings??

If this is what your talking about it looks excellent!
http://www.animanium.com/products/index.html
It has the simple non-bogged down interface that I love wings3d for.
my thoughts are .. is wings going to be compatible with it?
I think the question should be, is Animianium going to beable to offer imports to file formats that wings uses.
According to the site, the only listed formats it accepts are "3ds Max" and "Maya", and wings3d does export to 3ds.
On a wings animation package for wings3d, my understanding is that it has always been in thought, but it is not a direct goal or even on the drawing table now. Hope that helps

I saw it at E3.
They said $2,000 was the price. It is as much of a Mirai animation clone as Wings is a Mirai modeler clone. It looks great.
I Believe that it is compatible with major formats like Maya or LW. Don't quote me on that though......

Yes it is compatible with all major 3d applications.

Didn't someone say they were going to do a review of what they saw of Animanium at E3? I'm curious to hear more about it.

from what i understand, anmanium is coming out during the summer at a price of two thoushand dollars.
and t will also have a demo product .. so,.. WE can ALL test it.
after getting more info on it..
it seems that you only animate with it. you can't create your character in it. but, f i get this correctly, the rig you bring in does not need to be fully constrained??
is this correct or is it my misunderstanding of a japaneese translated page??

when i got a email from animanium like a month ago, i think they said august? im sure this program is going to make AW rethink how there animation tools work. the thread on here by jason schleifer got everyone talking. it would be amazing if like the latest version of maya had a way of animting just like animanium. i would like to try Motion builder, i thought it animated the same way as animanium? well thats what i have to say ciao.

Yes ,
go get the free motionbuilder , MB has the same IK\FK switching and pinning functions Animanium has.
I am looking forward to try out Animanium also when they release a demo.

Well...last time I looked at the website of this program they had a Personal Edition for $100 for a one year license, but no free edition. The only free things I found there were some tutorials. So could you please point me to the direction where you got a free version of this app?
I just found this on the 3D Festival page: http://www.kaydara.com/mailing/FBXQT_survey/index.html so if you fill out the form before July 1st, you get this PE with the one year license, but I guess after that one year you will have to buy it or something like this.

Between August 1st and December 31st, all FREE PE users will have an amazing opportunity to upgrade to a PERMANENT license of MB5 Standard Edition (SRP $995) for ONLY $200!

Micheal,
That is a great offer. $200! I have been really pleased with MB PLE, so I'll definitely will be upgrading to the Std. Can you layout the difference between Pro and Std?
Thanks,

and my question about motion builder is ..
well, actually, it's more than just one question..
this thread started with animanium's abilityto "pin" down elements of a body while animating the rest.
i thought only animanium could do that.
now, i'm hearing motion builder could do that?
is this correct?
and for 100 dollars i could have a one year license?
I thought motionbuilder was for motion capture only?
you can do key frame animation with it to?
what about rigging?
what software is it compatible with?
what is teh export and import formats?

right now MB will import from basically any thing, lightwave, 3dsmax, maya, 4-5 ,softimage xsi. also on mac os-x so you do all your animating then import back to your 3d program, you get the exact thing you animated in MB. then however you export to your games from your 3d package i would guess you just do it like that then.
campy22>
"animanium's abilityto "pin" down elements of a body while animating the rest" you can pin any joint/ any number of joints.
Kaydara is best known for incredible Mo cap, MB can import Mocap.
you can do key framed animation, thats currently what im doing, there is about 6 options while doing this "key translation only, rotation only , both, all joints, selected joints. if you name the bones in maya for example how MB likes you just import to MB and its ready to go. if you have your own method of naming, you just drag and drop your bones names onto the names that MB needs to characterize your character automatically, its about a 3 min process doingit manually. and for the import export it does this for all the major 3d programs in my opinion. and btw it exports and imports everyting its increidble. also i dont know about animanium on this but MB is all real time i have a chaaracter on my dual 2.2 ghz that is 45000+ polys when moving him it lags a ton in maya, in mb it moves on the fly its all realtime its really something once you see it. so WHAT you animate is what you render out. its all realtime just amazing to see.

I got the free MB offer. My main complaint so far is the needlessly complicated interface. I'm excited about Animanium's clean and fresh interface.
Yes, MB lets you pin just about any joint, and it has the advantage of supporting skinning and the much touted "real-time" viewport. But it seems very inflexible if you have a character that deviates from the standard biped (while just about half of the Animanium demos are non-biped).
People who want to use Wings with Animanium or MB will probably be disapointed, as both applications require bones be imported in addition to geometry.

hey wigaru,
i have been using motion builder for about 1 month now. that is one of my complaints is like what if i have a spider character? will i be able to animate it? so far i have got a answer of no, but MB5 is suppose to have some incredible new tools, besides biped. but if you have animated in it yet im sure you cant complain. im constantly amazed at the results im getting. i agree with you about animanum being clutter free. but MB lets you customize the whole UI. so you just set up for what you want. everything i ahve seen in animanium there is the viewport, then there is the window showing like a dope sheet type window? butyou can get the same results. it would be neat in animanimu like if i had a octopus, it would beable to characterize that. that is MB term for your character, i know you know but for anyone that reads this. if animanum could let you do that. wow.

I would rather have a well-designed UI than what MB has. MB's UI just strikes me as lazy. And there's all the weird double-clicking where you'd normally single-click. I haven't yet decided if it's worth my time to adjust to MB's quirks to do animation with it. I kinda like rigging in Maya, I would much rather have skinning be automated. :)
I like Animanium's XYZ manipulator free interface. Looks like it would allow super quick posing. But I don't really think Animanium can justify it's $2k price tag, though. Hopefully it'll be at Siggraph this month, I'd love a in-person demo.

yah the dbl clicking is really annoying.

You can turn on "single click selects" or something like that in the prefs :)
It's in the 3dBuzz MB VTM issue, either the first or second part...
Just checked the VTM...In the navigator window,
find the settings pane, and there should be this pin type icon.
If you toggle this ON,it will select by only clicking once.

You can also select by holding the space bar and single-clicking.
Something is wrong with that site. I can't get any serious info. It also seems almost like it was translated into english. Knowing Sega's track record, coming out with a really cool product then abandoning it when competition heats up, this kinda scares me.
Having said that, It sorta reminds me of the A:M interface. It'd be interesting to see their demo, I'll have to download the video. I'll wait till they release it and v2 comes out before I put down $2k for it (like I can even afford that ;) )

Yes, whoever made the site had a poor grasp of the English language, and that's definitely gonna hurt them.
However, this is not a Sega product in the way their consumer games are. This is a product of their R&D, and it isn't even being distributed by them.
