Haha, OK the secret of mr Snails blobs - dribble! Should have thought of that, very funny
huhu... strange isn't it ? especially for mechanical snails...
Like also much the colors for the Noahmobile all your models are so cute it's almost sad it has to rain so much... maybe you could change the legend and make it stop raining? :D
I hope the integration will be good for you... I keep the rain of course !
Looks great man!
Thanks a lot man... I'm not very sure... especially just after I saw you animation  hahahaha
you rocks
very nice snails man :D... the Noah mobile looks great
it's all coming up very good ...
HAPPY NEW YEAR BTW !!! :lightbulb
Thanks for the wishes Vlad... I wish you the best things for 2009... you already have the talent... huhu :applause:

For the moment, Noah as the same clothes than previously... but in white... I just keep the golden helmet and the leather/brown part.
You are close to the end my friend! Very well done! And the Hoah vehicle looks great!
Best to you!

Hi Lolo,
Noah looks great in white and I see now that the NoahMobile is perfect textured for this environment, just the right colors!:applause:
Great to see the different camera shots, everything looks fine for me, only the steam/smoke from the vehicle is a little strange...

Magnifique! Mais j'ai un crit. Je voudrais faire de l'eau un peu plus sombre. De cette façon, vous pouvez le voir dans les environs un peu mieux. Mais vous êtes le maître ici. :)
Great! You're going great guns on this one (I have no idea how to translate that into french, sorry!) One crit though- I'd make the water a bit darker, it would put more emphasis on the train/boat area.... but you are the master here. :D

I don't know if this vehicle is really good... but one think I like with it, it's the funny look...
that put a smile on my face... almost if that was not me the creator :banghead:
so strange... huhu
Yep good style and love the render ;)
Mici... mais c'est pas un peu trop fouilli ?
en même temps... c'est du Lemog... hahahaha... nawak...
Great to see the different camera shots, everything looks fine for me, only the steam/smoke from the vehicle is a little strange...
I don't like much the smoke... in fact, that react too differently following the framing and place... I will be certainly oblige to render it alone...
En lemogais:
huhu... nice language :D
Great! You're going great guns on this one (I have no idea how to translate that into french, sorry!)
No idea how it's in french... and also no idea about the sense in english :scream:
One crit though- I'd make the water a bit darker, it would put more emphasis on the train/boat area....
You've totally right in this point...
I've made some little lighting changes... and that affect much the water... I must think about that for the next renderings... thanks Peppie... and courage for your bull

Little animated test to see how work the new speed...
...as asked by all... slowerrrrrr...
I think it's enough, no ?
I could integrate the 18 wagons now... the scene is already very heavy... I don't want to imagine when all animals will be inside together.
Strangely... in first times of the challenge, as I don't have much time due to the expo project, I've planed to do something very simple... quickly done... not many animated animals but similars cages on wagons... with still animals...
I'm far now of this desicion... why ? but why ? ;-)))) huhuhu

An animated shaded wireframe...I'm fascinated:) !
And it really is slowerrr, indeed painfully slow when you try to see it on the server...I had to download it and found out that the speed is perfect now for average viewers:wise: ...
So you keep the suspense high here, waiting impatiently for the animated bunch of animals!

Wow! Lots of great updates here now. I like the Noah diver in white, very distinguished. Also the Noahmobile fits very well in the scene now.
And finally! The speed for the train works well now, what is it, a third of the original?

Here's the New StoryBoard... without pictures... I don't think to have time to illustrate it,
but many of you all know very well the universe of this project... :wise:
As I said before... now... that make 13 differents plans...
12 describe below... and the last one... wich will be a surprise for you all (for me too :scream: hahahaha)
seq 01 - 10" - DEC 1 - large plan - it rain... to discover the environment... the weather... the lighthouse turn
seq 02 - 10" - DEC 2 - middle plan... immerged church, it rain, the level of the sea is growing (ding-dong)
seq 03 - 10" - SB 1 - zoom - discovering the steamboat with only movments of the sea - nothing more
seq 04 - 15" - DEC 3 - travelling of the lighthouse to the street
seq 05 - 20" - CHAR DEC 1 - cam1 - the train start to arrive
seq 06 - 10" - SB 2 - close view of the steamboat... propellers starts
seq 07 - 25" - CHAR DEC 2 - cam2 - back to the street, again the wagons
seq 08 - 10" - SB 3 - zoom - steamboat, balloon inflate
seq 09 - 10" - CHAR DEC 3 - cam3 - large plan of the street, then environment and the boat... the train comes of the street until the steamboat
seq 10 - 15" - CHAR DEC 4 - cam"4" - middle plan... entering the animals wagons inside the steamboat
seq 11 - 10" - CHAR DEC 5 - cam"5" - middele-large plan + rear zoom - lock of the door-cage - steamboat starts rear propellers
seq 12 - 25" - CHAR DEC 6 - cam3 suite - large plan - take off until the steamboat will be far... and explosion...
around 150" -> 2 min 30 sec
seq 13 - 25" - final plan final - SURPRISE ;-)
Of course, these durations are only indicative... some of these plans are new... I don't made test... especially with the new train speed...

I downloaded your animatic, I think that's the latest one.
I'd say you probably don't need shot 2 at all. Shot 1 and 2 are pretty much the same idea, don't repeat them. Each shot should convey a different idea to the viewer. I'd cut out shot2 completely.
Also cut on the action, it'll leading into each shot better, basically, don't have the characters exit the screen completely, and have nothing there for so many frames.
goodluck!

Thanks for your comment my friend... in fact, I've made this animatic only to validate the speed of the train... even if I keep certain framing... it's not definitive, especially because the timing will be very different... remember... there's 18 wagons + the NoahMobile to pass... it's quiete long... and certainly I will be the 2 animations... When arrive the train / when leave the train...
I hope that will be better for you next time...
Thanks for you interest Martin... now it remain me to prepare the real train animation, with all the wagons...

Hey man,
Really nice to see that you're breaking up the film into multiple shots. In the original animatic it was just one long shot, and although it was nice, we missed a lot of the detail you modelled. Now with the cuts and closeups, we're gonna get to see it.

In fact, in the first times of the challenge, with my lack to spare time, I've decided to participate with just a simple creation... not to do many different animals, and add things in the environment... just something fast, funny with just one camera...
...and finally, detailing is always stronger than me... but now, I'm not totally sure to finish in time... I have too much other projects today in the same time... and a job... and a family :scream: hahaha

Depend some part of the image, animals could appear with strange lighting, in fact, as there's many street lights, with the animation, that enrich the animals shapes...

Hi Laurent,
You have a huge thread here :)
Renders look very good, and those bits of animation you have posted are too. Like the humor in it, and style. Wander to see the finished film!

Scenes are always in rendering actually... here's a little update with 6 more scenes...
You saw before the scene 01 to 05... and now added the 06 to 11...
It's a crose assembly and there's few images to modifiy, especially few pictures in the scene 10 with the smoke...
...but that give a precise idea about the rest.
Now, it remain again 3 scenes to do...
the one where the steamboat start the rear propellers and close the door-cage,
the one where the steamboat take off, until the explosion...
and the last one, but nothing started for this one ;-)
Hope you like the animation... simple... ;-)

What kind of audio are you planning to use?
Rain + Storm + Thunder + water/sea + wind (environment)
Steam engine + mechanical pieces + inflating + horn (steamboat)
Steam engine + mechanical pieces + rolling wheels on street + animals sounds (Noah's train)
and maybe... a epic music... don't know what for the moment... something as the the sorcerer's apprentice... :D

I really like this little film of yours, the sound, which works fine for me, sure adds a lot to the whole. The ending is funny - totally unexpected. When will we see the next episode? :D
Much congrats to you, this has really been your theme and I wish you all the best for the judging.

The story was a great idea, I love the steampunk style of the boat and the animals and all the wonderful details you've added:love: ...much fun, much style and the pleasant surprise at the end (thank's for saving them all, I'm always in need for happy endings;) ).

Thanks a lot Gunie... I'm very happy you like this little animation... until the end, I was not very sure to be able to finish it... well, it's done, I'm happy too... It's not very usual for me to do animation... and this one is certainly the best I've made... of course not the top, due to many reason, but I'm enough satisfied... it's a progress for me I think... I've learn much...
Thank you for your kind support along this challenge... and along all my cg works

Thanks for your appreciation Sabie... as I said, it's better with sound... and unexpected, the style of music could appear too much different than the story style... but I think it's original, even actual and that works.
Thanks to be always here... with your kind words, your good comments and advices...

It's wonderful. I love it. And no problems with sound for me either. In fact, I thought the sound track was superb. Like Gunilla said, the ending is funny and also unexpected. Definitely no crits from me. This animation has been an amazing piece of work (and this has been an amazing thread too). Congratulations

yep... finished... I'm sure you can finish your too... you have made someting with a great design... you must show us your final film !
Well... I have a question, I just take a look to the "deliverables page"... and it's wrote just after the Final Film Upload "30 second version of trailer for initial judging. Followed by a maximum of 90 sec making of material, followed by full length Video."
Anyone know if it's obligatory and where we must post this suplementary film of 2 minutes ?
I don't understand well
:curious:
Hi,Lemog! The Final Entry should have in the same movie file:30 seconds trailer,90 seconds making of and your final movie. So there are 3 different things in the same flv file.

01-29-2009, 02:25 PM
Lolo, it's right that you need to make the 30 sec trailer, what is actually just showing the highlights of your video, but you need not to make this "making of video", unless you want to be considered for a special skills award...
This is from the individual video site: "Finally - please remember to add a making of video for the skills awards you wish to be considered for. If you do this the length of the making of video must be less than 90 sec."
-sabrina
Gunilla
01-29-2009, 08:23 PM
If you like to go for the special skills, I suggest you go for modeling and just use the stills of your models. You already have a lot of images for them and could make a nice presentation from what you already have. And steampunk modeling is really one of your specialities, right? Bonne chance! :wip:

No no, you don't HAVE to make a Making-of. At least that's not how I understand it. But if you do want to, it should be put in between the trailer and full length as Tyson wrote.

Yes, you do need a making of. Check the "deliverables" page here: http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/steampunk/deliverables.php
All entrants were required to include making-of material last time...unless I'm really out of the loop, it's the same this time.

Okay :)
Sorry then. On the "Categories" page it says:
* Individuals in the Image category may enter a video to show off special features when being considered for an award (eg, turntable for the Modeling award).
** Video entries (whether team or individual) wishing to be considered for an award(s) are encouraged to show off the skill(s) in a silent (no dialogue – background music is OK) ‘making of’ documentary immediately after their closing credits. There is a maximum of 90 seconds allowed for this in addition to the Video.
I read that, as a choice of our own, but I don't know. I've never entered a video entry before.
ivanisavich
01-30-2009, 05:08 PM
Ah yea...that does seem to make it a bit vague eh. I think the rules page might need to be cleaned/clarified a bit based on that quote. Since that says "after the closing credits", whereas on the other page the finished video goes after the making-of...hmm...

hey that looks lovely, really interesting style, if i was you though i would limit the writing a little bit more, or make it smaller, i think it distracts too much from the gorgeous aesthetics, your too busy reading the writing to take in all the work behind it, and a lot of the writing isnt crucial, i found it hard to look at the writing as well as the images.
Just a suggestion though, it looks really good! and i love the full film :)

First of all I want to say I think Mark pretty much summed it all up for me.
Must say I had my doubts you would pull this of in the beginning there.
Not that you could do it but if you could do it on top of your fantastic Paris Fair project.
But you did it and in great style to. I simply love your design on.
Those animals are just splendid, I especially fell for the giraffe`s. :)
Don`t know how far this will get you with the judges (caus nobody knows what they will do :) ).

Sabrina -> yes... I think too that's too late for me... after many years... I'm finally a Lemog for eternity... hahaha
That was of course a more great experience... with the team !
Nice day for you Sabie...
Mark -> thanks a lot my friend... yep... humour it's always a large part of me...
I can't keep serious too long time... maybe because our worl is not always very funny !
If you appreciate to follow this thread... it's my first price !
Adrian -> héhé thanks man... yep... I like much to show almost each steps...
it's a large part to find motivation...
as maybe you know, in the same time, I continued to work on my other big projectof reconstrution of expo 1900,
and that was not easy to manage this project with the challenge, with my job and also something very important, the family life.
Then, each days when I could make another rendering of the last work... that motivate me to continue to work the next night...
Matteo -> Gracie mille !
Per -> thanks a lot for your words my friend... even me at the beginning I couldn't imagine what will be done in final...
and especially not all this modeling of many things.
Even if the concept is exaclty the same, this mass of work was not planed... but as usually, when I have a little time...
I play with details... and I add... I add... always more details...
I like that too much...
And at the difference with my expo1900 project or in my job, in these challenge, I can do what I want... I can have delirium modeling...
all is permit, and that, it's really cool !
About the result, maybe you're too simpathetic with my work.
I know it's far to be perfect... even if I've worked much on it, I don't dedicate all the time needed to have something better.
I've watched many other entries... and I saw many of them with an incredible level...
Maybe I'm far... hahaha
Well... that make me think to your thread Per... when do planed to finish your image...
we take also much fun to follow your "a little bit" mad project... that will be cool to see it finished !
Christopher -> thanks a lot mate... I've already said that many months ago... but maybe it's true today...
Sincerly, if I made this challenge, it's because the topic was very me... also because friends push me a little (not so much... huhu)
but with all other personnal project planed until 2010... I can't imagine to do an another challenge soon...
even if it's a great pleasure each time for me to be here to share with you all...
I'm already late with 3 different films actually... I must take care... and if the challenge is now finished...
I will continue to don't sleep much the nights... and that comes to be hard ;-)))
...and please... you too... finish you steampunk image !
Fernando -> héhé Fernando... time for tequila... yep... but not too much... it remain me again much work...
but of course, good times with friends to drink something good is always great...
Thanks for your comments man...
Christian -> Thanks Master, glad you appreciate, as I appreciate much what you do as incredible project you know...
