These are the first steps .. just to get an impression of the scene.
Well ... late beginning ... i had this "holy-grail" scene in mind (since early December) - some sort of this Indiana-Jones-Interpretation in Steampunkt, but wasn't that lucky with it. There should be all those steampunk-fancy grails ... and there is the hero and the guardian ... that doesn't work out in my mind.
Something was missing, and i didn't know what it was.
Yesterday while sitting in a train, watching the people around ...it pops out of my head.
The motiv was missing ...
Well you know ... you think its clear; the hero wants the grail, the guardian is just waiting for the hero ... but thats not enough.
What are the doing, whats in their minds!? What would you do while waiting hundreds of years for some hero ... maybe every couple of decades some lonly man came up there and chose the wrong grail. ... thats a boring life.
Maybe you would start to smoke ... some of the heroes may left some cigarettes ... and where to put the ashes, all of those steampunk-grail and you would choose maybe the only simple one, the only one looks like an ashtray, the holy grail for it.
And then theres coming the next here; suffered from all those travels, he maybe fell into the room ... he is in motion; he has no time left.
While the guardian just move his head ...
all this sourrounded by the star-like glamour of the room.
Yeah, lets see if that works ... and what i can came up with the last couple of hours in this challenge.

This is maybe some sort of Speedpainting-step ...

i tried another composition
well, its obviously the qustions, what is the main-aspect of the scene.
The first is "all those steampunk-grails", in the second, those are only background.
And more than this, its a question about, what i would like to render. ;D
Do i really want to render those chalice, or do i really wanne spend as much time into figuredetails?
Well, im not quite sure about it, ... but in doubt, go for the action. Storytelling and human-figures are always the better choice than landscapes(even landscapes of cups ;)) if its not your aim to paint a calm piece for your bedroom. ;)
