Definitely interesting by trying to do an image with this aesthetic style.
I've not make a cg challenge since the Eon one....long time ! but i'm happy to see some others old knowed faces :)
First idea when i read subject is to work around the pied piper of Hamelin story :
"In 1284, while the town of Hamelin (Germany) was suffering from a rat infestation, a man dressed in pied garments appeared, claiming to be a rat-catcher.
He promised the townsmen a solution for their problem with the rats.
The townsmen in turn promised to pay him for the removal of the rats. The man accepted, and thus played a musical pipe to lure the rats with a song into the Weser River, where all of them drowned.
Despite his success, the people reneged on their promise and refused to pay the rat-catcher. The man left the town angrily, but returned some time later, seeking revenge.
Few days after, while the inhabitants were in church, he played his pipe again, this time attracting the children of Hamelin. One hundred and thirty boys and girls followed him out of the town, where they were lured into a cave and never seen again."
Try to do some rough now, re-edit the story and see if it's possible to try a composition with this.
see you soon.

woot ! after searching some refs, the fist rough concept and near-detailled sketches and tries.
The concept is simple, in same order than the pied piper's legend, this one play music to atract childs in is ship.
Ship is based on caravelle travelboat...at this moment!
ahah!
Maye increase the perspective view, to accentuate the domination of the player, and add a dramatical feeling.

This is a composition test with all elements.
Roof on the background, church dome on right, and the pathway to hell for childrens.
:)
Andrei thanks you, we take the same and start again

Based on my first sketch and some references found on the net, here the first polys for the Steampiano player.
i hope to create a clean and pre-detailled mesh then try to transpose into mudbox or Zb to add another level of details. :)

Hi friends,
just in waiting for the jacket update, a first study and retro-design, for the glasses (and the hat, but no design here).

Nice hat, but how's he supposed to get the goggles past the brim of the hat if he want's to wear them? They seem to be held on via a chain.

Good style for this hat ;)

Great idea. Those goggles and the top hat go really well together. They remind me of some of the cool outfits you would see in World of Warcraft, cant remember what race though, the gnomes maybe?

I love the goggles, and the hat is great too. I like the idea of having chains as the strap, but you should add some kind of padding and allow them to be adjustable in some way. Great look though.

Hey Cyril !
nice glasses and hat you got here. I'm sure it will look great with the character.
...and i don;t see any problem on that chain , it seams a very thin one so it could be a chain like jewels have, so it won't be any problem for the character to wear them.:D
cheers !

I love the 3d sketch. I think you have a good idea for a composition. I think the music player gives a good focal point that will bring my eyes to that big blimp vehicle. I hope the vehicle has a lot of cool details because thats the first thing I will look at after I look at the music player.

Hi Cyril,
the start of the jacket looks promising to me, looking forward to see the next detailing steps. And of course there's no way for a steampunk character to go outside without hat and glasses...very much in style your design!
