RESTARTED - Look for "NEW CONCEPT" further down this page!

Hi there ...

this is my first challenge. And I don't know if it was a good idea to start with the animation challenge cause my job is keeping me busy quite a bit at the moment and the animation challenge seems to be quite a competition. But I was looking forward so desperately to the new challenge topic that I would feel bad if I wouldn't participate. So let's give it a try ...

Please don't feel offended or annoyed by my bad english. It's not my native language and I am sometimes experiencing serious trouble explaining my thoughts.

Ok ... here goes my idea:

There is a big kind of a gladiator guy wearing helmet, boots and a scottish kilt who grabs a huge sledgehammer with which he is going to attack a poor weak little guy who can barely avoid being crushed by the enormous warhammer. When the little guy is completely exhausted and cannot manage to get out of the way of the hammer anymore, the big guy prepares for his finishing move by raising the hammer to the maximum, standing on his toes, making a hollow back ... oops ... his kilt move up a little too far and the little guy starts laughing as hell for some almost unvisible reason ...

I don't know yet if I do some sketches first or start modeling immediately ... I am not a sketching genius.

Let's see ...

I just started with the legs of the big guy ... there still have to be done lots of adjustments ... but see yourself.

I updated the image and the movie above.

He is the owner of a head now! And because he's a bad guy he also got a helmet.

The only things I am not yet happy with are the hands and the forearms. I always experience problems while modeling forearms. They suck.

I'll try to refine these areas and finally giving him a bellybutton and then I'll start rigging.

lildragon: Thanks for the positive feedback :buttrock:

Uhm ... it's encoded with the Sorenson 3 codec. Maybe you need to update your Quicktime plugin?

Does anybody else have problems watching the movie?

NEW CONCEPT

Hi dudes,

something terrible happened: I completely changed my animation concept! While rigging the big bad guy all 24 blendshapes skrewed up somehow and I didn't feel like doing them again ... very unsatisfactory! Then I got heavily inspired this weekend while hanging out on bed with my girlfriend. We got a much more original and visually artistic idea of an animation than before. So we decided to restart.

It will be kind of a collaborative challenge approach now. My girlfriend Eva-Maria will act as a director and I will translate the whole idea into 3D.
It's quite late to restart from scratch but we will summon all powers to stay in time!

Now I will introduce you to the new story:

It's all about two girls. One of them being a breathtaking, black haired beauty with skin like porcelain. To make it short: She's got that special something and makes everybody halt for a moment when she is entering the room without being aware of her beautiful charisma. She's called Eve ... ;)
And there is the other girl whose name is not known yet. A blonde wanna be sex bomb who is trying to get attention all day long, whatever it may cost. She's got that cheap look typically for that kind of girl and obvious to everybody except herself. And - actually I don't have to mention it - she HATES Eve!
One unlucky night both meet by accident in a cosy jazz bar and - you guessed it - hell breaks loose.

To be continued ...

The story will be set in the glamorous and decadent early 30ies when vaudeville and burlesque cabaret reached its peak.

Here are some early concept sketches of Eve. Finally she will have long hair instead of the cleopatra cut.

I begin realizing that we won't be able to finish the animation until June the 12th. But we WILL finish it somewhen after the deadline.

Here is a shot of Eve's head. The eye lashes are still missing and the hair is not yet finished. But there already exist some blendshapes and I will post a facial animation soon.
