View Full Version : When do you use HSDS in MAX

Hello there!

Can anyone tell me what the HSDS Modifier in MAX is good for? As written in the Help file, the HSDS "is rather a finishing" than a modeling tool!

So when do you use it? Also, i read about a post from Steven Stahlberg in which he states that he uses Hierarchical Subdivision Surfaces in Maya. Here is the link:

HSDS is a subdivision surface like one im maya, however its not as advanced as maya or othe soft like lightwave. Besically if you need to get very detailed in a certain area of an object but keep the rest of it light use subdiv...I donno about max, but mayas subdiv are very tricky, and need to be constantly monitored for bugs.
