I love the idea of Beowulf. Do it!
11-11-2008, 08:16 AM
So here's a quick 10 min doodle on a character concept for Beowulf (if I go with this character) and Grendal at his feet. Want it to be in a smashed wreckage-type area where they just fought...
Give Grendal some sick tattoos all over his body...Beowulf, scarred up face from previous fights and some massive hammer weapon..
But we'll see. Going to try and do some more doodles of other characters...so many...so so many.
Getting excited though!!

Cool looking concept. Be awesome if he had a monocle and a moustache, just to really go overboard with the Steampunk idea.

Paperclip - More than likely I will :)
cowtrix - lol...the mustache, maybe. the monocle, too predictible ;)

Maybe Grendel could have some metal body parts?!
Well, keep the good work.

Stop being so damned good you. You put the rest of us to shame. But that aside, it looks kick butt so far, though does remind me of your Journey Begins entry a little, maybe in the shape of the neck surround. Early days though, neh? Can't wait to see where you go with this, best of luck Dan!

Smash - thanks bro.
Zeph - my dear! So glad you're doing this too. Finally a familiar face. Yeah I've already scrapped the design in my head, I want him to look BEEFY..but not. Ya know?
Big....but not wearing much.
It'll be tough, but I'll battle through it! Thanks guys <3
I love the the concept, I wonder what color palette your thinking of doing the sketch in, its going to look good, good luck and cheers

considered Grendel as steampunk too?
11-13-2008, 12:10 AM
Alright, here he is. This is the pose and feeling I'm going for.
Beowulf (standing) and a defeated Grendal (creature/hybrid of machine)
Give Beowulf some huge hammer like weapon, with burning rebar on the other side and chainsaw blades wrapped around the head of it.
put some cool gears and pumps on him..and give some epic clouds behind.
Let's get working ;)

Heres a color study before I stop for tonight, enjoying it, but it's lacking some charm...could be me, since it won't be as I see it in my head until fully finished.
But at least I'm not totally against it..so this is a good step forward.

Yup, great character for this challenge. I actually like the first pose better when he's looking downwards.

Nice pallet, I like the color harmony
maybe a googles on his eye will look him more steamy! :D

Wao, it's gonna to be a cool character design here, I like the pose and the weapon.
11-13-2008, 06:15 AM
So the lineart begins..I have the whole body done, but you can't see all the detail in a 150 kb picture..so I gotta show in chunks for now lol..
11-13-2008, 06:18 AM
Deevad - thanks man!
mim-Armand - thanks man, I took your suggestion and while a group of the artist will probably have some type of goggles in there..I took your idea and mixed it up..giving him..a steam punk monocle!
rezeroth - thanks bro!
niva - I did too..but it didn't feel strong enough to me. So I switched it up a bit..hopefully it still plays off.
michael - thanks man, hopefully I see yours too!
