incredibly impressive reel you have there. the weakest one I thought was the first scene, maybe switch up the order and have the hallway first or something? regardless, your reel was very inspiring.

Hey guys, thanks for all your comments and crits, much appreciated.
ragdoll, there may be a bit too much camera shake in some of the shots I agree; won't be re-rendering tho, my exhausted PC would kill me ;)
Mawki, I did all the work, modelling, texturing, lighting, rendering comping.
mohsen123, sorry you can't view the reel, am considering uploading onto youtube, will let you know if I do.
Thanks again!

Very nice work! The opening short was awesome; your artistry really shows through. Thanks allot for the breakdowns as well.
One minor crit; the reflection off the Jeeps windshield is too even. The window is dirtier where the wipers dont touch. A reflection map, blurring it in the outer areas would lock it up nicely.
Beautiful.

Thank you for posting this and especially for doing the breakdowns. Now I believe anything is possible even if you're a do-it-yourselfer!

Hey, thanks again for the kind words guys.
Abazaba, you're defintately right about the windshield reflection, I don't know why I didn't think of blurring it!
I've got a HD version available on Vimeo now too :D
Very impressive - loved the plane crash!! How long did the work take to complete?

It looks very cool, and great effects! But I started to wonder what parts you used XSI for and what you used MAX for? :)

Excellent stuff you got there, the corridor shot looks really good. The robot shots were very cute and funny and looked really good but it still needed a little bit more compositing work, just a bit, and the handheld camera wasn't really working for me. Did you keyframe the camera to achieve that effect?
But overall this is a fantastic reel. Good luck with everything.

Thanks everyone again for your comments and crits :)
vfx - As for the time spent on doing the work, it's hard to say. The robot animation was done in about 4 weeks. I was working on and off the Plane animation for about 2-3 years but completed it about 6 months ago. The Jeep took about 5 weeks. The corridor scene took me about 2-3 weeks. I worked mostly weekends and some of the evenings in the week.
thomaskc - I use XSI for all my modelling and texture layout work. I use Max for materials and rendering. I actually prefer the render tree in XSI but I'm not a big fan of Mental Ray and I love the particle systems in Max and a host of other little nifty features that makes it a pleasure to work with.
Helgi - thanks for your feedback Helgi. The camera shake was achieved by applying a noise modifier to the cameras rotation. One of those nifty features that I love about Max :)
Thanks again!

Truly awesome work!
What I do nowadays to get realistic 'crappy-cam' movements is just matchmove custom shot material. If I want a pan to something and want to make it feel handheld I just shoot it, track it (Syntheyes autotracker will do fine) and only import the camera data and compose my scene around it :). Will give even better results!

Shademaster, I have indeed tried that method before and it gives great results but is a very slow turnaround. The noise modifier in Max may not give completely realistic results but it's a very close second and gives you quite a bit of control which suits my purposes. I really like your Porsche BTW, very nice render indeed and some great post work too. :)
Thanks again everyone

Thanks for your post in my thread!
I see the problem in using reallife footage as a cameratrack. Sometimes the timing is just off by a second and changing that means shooting it all over again :) .
Great work once again!
