It's a very well done effect from a great movie, but do we really need a bloody baby as a plugged thumbnail image?
nice nice!! simply awesome. 5*

That was unbelievable.
I'm pretty new to CG and can't even imagine how something like that is done. Even with the dropped in explainations. But what I'm really in the dark about is...
How many people worked on that? Are these things usually team efforts or some computer wiz sittin in his/her basement.
How long did that sequence take?
Would that be pretty common for a feature film?
thanks for the insight.

But...can it dance?
I loved children of men. It was the first movie in a long time that went to see twice in theaters.

I have to say this was done well but it's definitely not convincing to me and not perfect. It has one glarring flaw. Can anyone pick it out? The babies head should be more pointed when it is born. No attention to basic detail here, just to the little details that many artists think will sell it as being real. I don't think I have ever seen a very accurate depiction of a baby being born in a movie. This one is a still good attempt though. I guess this isn't as bad as having shell casings attached to bullets being shot through the air in certain movies but it's close.

haha. Same here.
And to respond to the "too white baby" comment, babie's come in all colors, but yeah, they do normally come out darker because of bruising, at least according to my mother who's a midwife.

Why there are steam out of her vagina?
Because of the difference between the cold air and the warm bodily fluids. It looked at least 10 below in that room to me. Looks like steam was coming off of the baby a bit to.

Very cool breakdown, thanks!
Even though the thumbnail for the CGTalk Frontpage is a little... weird. My first thought was: "What the hell, a dead baby?".
Seriously great stuff.
I love the skin deformations, driven by the bones - something that makes it look very realistic.

Are you sure about this? I mean is it a medical fact or just an assumtion? I understand babies having soft skulls etc, but I was at the birth of both my boys and pointed heads dont come to mind.
Dont pointed heads come about from using suction or forceps?
Killer scene from a killer movie! I honestly thought it was a prosthetic gag when I first watched it.

Amazing work, really really top job
The baby is a bit to white for the black mom.
;)
But...this is Awesome!
Fantastic work!
Two things spring to mind
1: the father could be white, meaning eather ligher skin, or actualy being born white.
2: Not being a doctor or a midwife......Im pretty sure Iv see footage of coloured kids being born and they appear to be increadably pale in skin colour....maybe I just imagined that one though?
Edit...like this <- totaly save for work for those who worry about such things.

Anyway..........one of the best films from the last few years without a doubt.

I watched a video (part of a documentary) of an African woman giving birth. She was very dark, and her child at birth was "unusually" white at first. I am talking ghost white. But soon after the child darkened. I also watched a video at my sisters lamaz class and the child was purplish.
I think it probably is different for each birth.
The only real flaw I saw was in the eyes of the child when it blinked. They looked dead or not real, it caught my attention before I knew it was CG. Usually it's the eyes that give away a good scene.
I initially though it either a doll or a real baby covered in goo, but the eye made me wonder until I saw the DVD extra.
Great movie. *****
