View Full Version : Unreal Tournament 3 Warfare map W.I.P.
SINII 11-10-2008, 12:34 AM Hi everybody. My thread is all about the process of creating a 3D game map with environment, vehicles and characters using classic 3D tools + Unreal Editor
Since it was started a few months ago, I'll post what I have for now and will update periodically.

dope work on the vehicles man, they are pretty fitting of the UT style. the sculpting of the whole level on the other hand, i cant really see this transfering niceley even if you used a 4096 map. I would highly reccomend creating a nice mesh that utillizes tiling textures that you can break up with vertex blending. check out hourences site, it has some great tutorials and methods that could be directly applied to this. nice work, it could be beneficial to build highpoly vehicles for some awesome normals.

Thank you guys, I'm an industrial design graduate, so vehicles is what I do best, so environment will be tough for me, but I'll handle it with help of this forum :)
here is an update on the vehicle which I'm working now, and a normalmap test (first in my life)

cool work, vehicles have nice design though i find them too aerodynamic and clean as for militarized UT style.
I agree with Pixel-Masher about the sculpting thing. You really should use tiled textures. You can blend several ones also if you want but don't use a huge oversized texture for the whole environment cause that won't work.
Keep it up man.

Matroskin spasibo, I understood that I'll not be able to make the environment only with 3D software, so now I'm going to find some tutorials on sculpring environment in Unreal ED.
Here is my last bit of progress with an original character inside, It doesn't perfectly fit but I'll adjust it in time...

shuldnt be hard to find when it comes to Unreal editor. Its tons of tutorials out there for Ued2.Its harder to find for Ued3 but here you have a good site http://www.hourences.com/book/tutorialsue3terrain.htm
Also if u buy UT3 special edition i think u get some videotutorials with that.

I've found a lot of tutorials, now I'm exporting the vehicle, meanwhile there goes a concept of the human base from this map (It is made by my colleague NDBY he is allso doing textures for this map)

man i really love the design of that car. I would recommend maybe adding some more edges to the part supporting the back wheel, it looks a little chunky at the moment.
that concept looks interesting, the structures look really solid and beliveable.

Hi, what I have now is a quick map test and some concepts definition. In points A and B are the Cores of each team, in A1 and B1 are the control nodes, I'm not sure if it is enough one for each team...

This is looking nice. I can't wait to see how this progresses. Your concepts and vehicles are especially nice.
