Got a littlebit sparetime so its time to join the challenge.

Good luck to everyone! Great entrys so far!

Here is my concept drawing:
http://www.art-3d.com/images/stuff_temp/small_web_cartoon_01.gif
http://www.art-3d.com/images/stuff_temp/small_web_cartoon_04.jpg

and some other progress pics from sketch.

shaded grey (http://www.art-3d.com/images/stuff_temp/small_web_cartoon_03.jpg)
plain color (http://www.art-3d.com/images/stuff_temp/small_web_cartoon_02.jpg)

The Game:

Its a freaky 3D jump and shoot game ... where you can choose one of the Team members and shoot the bad space vampire hunters and bite fat funny looking chicken blood burger (blood is locked or green for shure ;) - so kids can play it) ... the goal of the game is to find all parts of a secret map to the Chickey-Blood-Planet what is THE ultimate paradise for the team members.

Another tricky thing is that they have to jump and fall upon the chickens and stick their teeth into them on the fly to get their blood, because they cannot bite them ... how it should work without a cheekbone ;) ... if you do not understand that ... drawing is in work over weekend.

I cannot wait to start modeling next week. :wip:

cheers,
Christian

Thank you for the replies.

Scottosh: i agree ... not very original ... it will be a fun game for playing in lunchbreak ... i love those games (Rayman 2) and roleplaying games.

started working on scud today ... nearly finished ... need to add gun and some other subtile details.

I hope i transfered the freakyness into 3D version well.

next things to do:

modeling gun and TORK
scan concept scetches for zack, and flee and chickeys ;)

:wip:

cheers,

Hi there @Korn_ART,

Im waiting for the gun and the rest of equip. also for the other eobot wich is cool as well. My thumb up:thumbsup:

fantastic character designs! very clean and simple. the colorscheme could be more appeling thoguh, imo. the freakiness is there in the 3d model aswell, very nice. love the simplistic yet appealing characters.

wow This is very impressive
It looks so simple but It stil has A lot of carracter

very good :applause:

Vladvrz
06-15-2003, 08:31 PM
Simplistic is good some of the time, but this is just too simplistic. No appeal,no real hook for the game player. The features are just thrown on,not at all my style.I mean you did that in one hour right?not the skecth, but the model.
The robot does have more ,that is good, but in the end maybe you do have something I like more.Is not bad, just too simplistic,at least for me.:hmm: :)

Aearon
06-15-2003, 09:26 PM
I don't agree completely Vladvrz. it's not too simple, as long as it has this much character.. at least not in general! _but_ for this challenge i also don't think it's.. challenging enough :scream:

how will this occupy you until mid-july ?

if you think up a cool scene to place these guys in you'll be all set though

thank you for the nice replys :)

Vladvrz: for me the main challenge is not creating very detailed models (i do that at work everyday with technical stuff) ... the main goal for me is to develop and create chars that got expression and with this challenges i got the time to develop my own style.
Maybe i could use these chars later for personal animations.

JeyJey: Hi Jens ... i saw that you joined too .... good luck! :)

Scud is not the only char that i am working on ... there are other crew members that are waiting to be modeled. I will post scetches of them tomorrow.

...sometimes less is more.

Just a rigging test.

hush ...he's a funny dude....though i partly agree with Vladvrz but it's just my humbling opinion...perhaps this is just out of your test pose in which he's got not that much character as before...but i think with some buddies at his side they'll push the 'got character' issue some more....

greets and keep us updated ;)

really funny character =) Did you use Finalrender for rendering?

stenarts
06-16-2003, 08:42 AM
Thatīs really fun...maybe you need an more detailed and textured environment to have the possibility for better staging of your Characters. I really love them and do not think they are to simple....now it depends from cool game effects...how do they fire the weapons and the kind of walkcycles. Give them cool poses and extrem expressions, surprise by unexpected details when he smiles or crying...

You are working on something special you should not stop after that challenge to develope the whole game idea.

Really cool start...

Like that direction a lot and hope we all get more to look at,
surprise us...

Thank you for all that motivating replies :)

Hi Dimitris ... nice to see that you joined too :wavey:

lukx: Yes ... i am working with C4D so thats finalrender. :)

stenarts: yes you're right ... the motion is very important for that ... i sketch every free minute to work out their main characteristics.
Great idea with the unexpected detail for expressions.

I will definetly working on an with these characters after the challenge ... because i really love them ... from the first stroke i did while working on concept.

I wish i could produce a game like this later.

Did not got much sparetime today ... but enough to shape out the rough model for tork and do another testpose with scud.

... i did a paintover to show what details i plan to add
... i will add some more detail to scud model too.

It's hard to decide what details could improve and what could destroy the main idea of the characters.

http://www.art-3d.com/images/stuff_temp/scud_tork_paintover.jpg

Now working out all the other characters (zack, chickens and vampire hunter) could look in detail.

here a rough sketch and a bad scan from zack (the frankstone-like-robot)

http://www.art-3d.com/images/stuff_temp/sketch_zack.gif

My brain is just thinking in moment about how they could look in detail without changing the style and make them looking too similar.

characteristics:

scud: is the leader of that team and very (very is relative;)) clever.

tork: is a strong but stupid guy...

zack: is a uhmm "uncontrollable" ... the most time he just do what the wan't.

flee: is a small flying and very intelligent robot ... he is the brain of that team.

-

the vampire hunter: will looking similar to an elegant english lord from 18xx ... and he is very smart.

-

working on other characters too but for the first i will do these and then see if the time will allow that.

Thank you again for all these nice replies.

My thought is the man is interesting, but the other machine are just for kid,I don't care for. make little sense to me.Not my style. But the man is going to look better.
:)

ChrRambow
06-19-2003, 04:33 PM
Leesee: shure ... this game is mainly aimed for kids (i include me to them ... maybe an old kid in mind) ... the guy is the bad hunter and have to look a lil bit more like the robot style ... for example i will use the same style his body, arms and legs.

06-19-2003, 04:43 PM
hehe the small robot remind me of a robot on a cartoon on cartoon network and the gun reminds me of this

ChrRambow
06-19-2003, 10:56 PM
lithik that would be bad if this style and robot really exist ... i don't know cartoon network becaus i don't got this here in germany.

If you could find a pic of that ... it would be great ... hoping that this is looking diffrent than mine robot character

Dont worry, there are always some details which will remind us other series, games or designs on all threads here in this challenge. But tisnīt that the way how our imagination are formed and influenced....by what we see and like...our obligation is just to develop from all that ideas and details our own unique style and not to copy anything. You are on a good way and it looks like you working on something really great. Make them your favorites for as long as possible and dont give up working on them as well if it means to invest more then the time for this challenge here.

Great work keep going and have fun,

STEN ;)

Looks original, fun, and nice work.I just wish you could make the face a little more conventional of the bots.I know's it's a style thing,if you did this it would be not at all what you set out to do.Still it's fun,and that's as important as anything.
