View Full Version : seems like a bug; moving z-spheres scales mesh
designingpatrick 11-09-2008, 03:10 AM I'll be moving some z-sphere and my model jumps back. or more appropriately it is scaled by about half. If it happens a couple of times, then I am unable to zoom in any further, and I will have to reload the tool. It is like I am holding alt, dragging the mouse, then letting go. This sort of function will jump the camera violently. But I'm not holding alt, I am clicking on a z-sphere and moving it. Also the camera doesn't move, the mesh is actually scaled. Any ideas?

Yes, I know what that is. It's a bug in ZBrush and it will happen mostly when moving and scaling but sometimes when rotating Z spheres.
It's simple to fix though. What you have to do is UNDO to your last move BEFORE it happened and then press the f key on your keyboard to frame the z sphere model back to the center and then you can continue working. Chances are it won't happen again right away or maybe not at all.
It's VERY important that you UNDO though before framing the model and continuing, because ZBrush will become unstable and crash *eventually* if you don't. It might not crash soon, but it will eventually.
What I usually do at that point though, after undoing and framing is to save my model as a Ztool, close and reopen ZBrush. I figure better safe than sorry. :)

Thanks for the reply,
One difference is that this happens (so far) only when I am moving (translating) z-spheres. Also, I determined that this only happens when I have a sub-tool as a part of the tool. I am using reference planes, and the issue has not occurred when the sub-tools are hidden.
Also, I have tried ctrl-z and frame, but I don't think that it's been effective.
I guess the best thing to do in this case is to save the tool and restart the app.
Thanks again for the reply.

Oh, you're welcome.
I get it fairly often, at least once every time I work with ZSpheres, but strangely enough, only at the beginning when I have maybe 8 or ten of the things.
