My latest car, the Ferrari 288 GTO. One of the most beautiful Ferraris ever built ...

dont you just hate it when noone replies? I do. So here goes.

I think its great, looks nicely modelled, clean aswell I might add. The render presents it well.

Sweet model and render, I'm sure it was no easy task modeling a couple of areas on this 1, well thought out! Are the vents on each side of the hood modeled as a seperate panel?

WOW!!
This one looks absoloutly gorgeous!! :)

Do you have some renders of the interior as well? and a wire of the rims. They look very nice too!
Are the doors separate objects from the main body shell?

 I love your work. A very nice an clean model, and also very nice materials and renders.

Great job!! :D :)

Thanks guys

Tyre wire:
http://w1.195.telia.com/~u19507506/3d/gto_tyre_wire.jpg

The tyre thread is modelled from scratch ... made one row of thread and copy/rotated it around ... I think I over did the segments on the thread ... as you can see its packed with polys. :)

The interior isnt very suited for close up renders  all the stuff are there but its not very good quality .. just enough to look decent through the windows hehe ...

The doors are separate and modelled separately (not cut out of the side body).
The vents on the hood is just a square hole and then I put the crossbars in there separetely, they are not a part of the hood really. Would be too much segments to get a nice subdivision :wip:

Really, really nice. My second-favorite Ferrari, right after the 1963 250 GTO!

Excellent model
Crits: textures..I really like what you've done with the windows but the overall body paint looks slightly 'metallic' for a Ferrari.
Wheel texture looks a bit plasticky and unconvincing
Shouldn't the rear bumper be black?

Great though.

If you wanna reduce the polys on the tyres relatively painlessly grab a copy of the erase edge loop script form scriptspot. :)

awesome model, one of the best ferraris here buddy!!!!
i think materials may need tweaking, such as black plastic on the front bumper looks too fake, as does the wheel chrome

That is one AWESOME model! Great job!

Thanks for the kind words guys !

@Cinema1954 - I agree that the 250 GTO is an awesome car too ... its a close race between these two for the crown !

@xynaria - I agree it might be a bit too metacllic and reflective ... I guess I just wanted it material to reflect the environment (white cards mostly) a little more .. but its not really Ferrari Red anymore ... even though the RGB-values are from a Ferrari paint catalouge :p
I find rubber material hard to do ... hehe feels like its either to dark and the thread wont show .. or to pale and fake-looking .. darn ... :p

The front bumper, back bumper and the A-post can be either black or red I think ... all my references show different combinations hehe ... guess with only 272 cars built they werent very consistent ...

@l7d - I tweaked the wheel material alot ... the rims has got two different material ... the outer rim and center bolt is a bit chrome .. but not that much ... and the five spoke star seems to be some kind of brushed/polish aluminium look ...

http://w1.195.telia.com/~u19507506/3d/_rims.jpg

The material caould be better I guess .. but it should not be much more chrome looking ... IMHO :)

Thanks again for the feedback ! its very helpful for future renders !

great work, not much to nitpick here...

There are something fishy on the edges of the rear lights, and the tires as mentioned before are a bit "dull"..

seemes that you have "skipped" the gas lid too...

Thanks ! Hm .. lets pretent the gas lid is on the other side ?? :D
There sure is something going on with those rear light ... I think its a mapping issue. On more thing on the list for future work .. and oh .. the gas lid :p

Glad you liked it, have always used a white or light environment to show off the cars but after seeing how good your Nismo looked in a dark I've tried that ... and I like it :D

@zacchello - Thanks :) you mean that people in italy dont like the F40 ? .. I dont really like its look either ... along with the F50 and Enzo ... guess you can blame it on aerodynamics :p

@robin - you bet its a sexy car ... I do hope its a "she" though

Its funny, I remember talking with my brother years ago about our favorite ferraris when we were kids, and I described my two fav's. He laughed at me and then told me that they were both GTO's. Anyway, years later, the 1962 ferrari 250 GTO, and the 1984 288 GTO are still my favs.

Great model. Great Car. Well Done.

By the way, a model of something as beautiful as this can never have too many polys.

Thanks guys, glad you like it :)

@muki - yeah both the 250 & 288 GTO still rocks ... milestones in car history (for me at least) ... :buttrock:

Hi there Bjolletts,

Great model and fantastico subject matter! My favourite too!

Get the materials/shaders sorted and it's a classic. They are not doing this great model any favours at present.

As for colour sampling the Ferrari catalogue for RGB values! Don't trust them. I spent ages perfecting the Ferrari rosso red and in the end do most of the colour balancing in photoshop as it's so difficult getting it spot on at render time - I find anyways. Mess with the Curves and Saturation of the rendered image - you'll be amazed how much better this will look than the render!!! Try it out.

Great stuff once again!

Regards

a.

It's just a matter of running levels on the rims in photoshop in my opinion, more contrast to it - i hope it's okay me modifying it a bit.

Im sorry... but i can't take any credit for this work - all i did was adjust levels in photoshop. It's all Bjolletts work.

Sorry if i have made anybody confused.

That's definately a great model (of a great car, I love the 288 too), but there's some points that bug me:

- as mentioned: the side mirrors are too flat, they're more wedge shaped
- the reflections show some of the imperfections of the body
- Ferrari logo in front grill should be chrome and have a bump
- The front indicators could be placed differently (but I guess, as with most supercars) there's different versions. See here (http://hem.passagen.se/sammpe/bilder/Ferrari%20288%20GTO%20(1984).jpg)
- The fog lights seem to have a default checker bump map, which makes them a tad dark.
