Here's my showreel, it's finished but im still open minded about editing it so please let me know if you don't like bits of it.
I did post my short film here a few weeks ago_not many people replied with feedback, im hoping to do better with this.

I just graduated from university so looking for employment. Anyone interested should not hesitate to get in touch.

Not too bad for just graduating… the animation was good in places and in others it could use some work. The movement was a bit slow in spots. Also, if I were you I would reconsider the deer. Its animation is the weakest in your reel. I would maybe just show it as a model only. The effects were nice. I hope I was of some help! Peace and good luck with the job-hunt!

Thanks for the advice man, i did the deer in my first year, and it's one of my favorites, perhaps i will re animate it, or mak eit shorter on the showreel, i don't want it just to be still.

Great advice cheers....

Here’s an old Hollywood saying that editor's use a lot "You have to be able to kill your darlings." Basically meaning that no matter how much you like a scene or shot… if it conflicts with the story line... you got to cut it. I understand about wanting to hold on to work that you put time and heart into, but if it doesn't meet par with your other pieces it should go.

Also one other tip...employers, when they look at reels, look for the weakest piece and will say,"this is the skill level this guy will be providing my studio." So, reels are not judged by the best work but by the worst. . . . Not mean'en to preach or anything! Just try'en to shed some light! :wise:

RedSilas:Thanks for the advice again, I'v heard of that saying before, and did have it in my mind, i guess i will edit those scenes out and make it shorter.

Freedik:I been thinking about what you said, and maybe your right about the showreel, but my short film which features heavily on the showreel is very personal and original in my opinion, maybe it's just not showing through on the showReel it self.

Oh and I have edited bits off my showreel again..c what u think...i havent completely got rid of the deer :-(

Hey mate,

Looking a lot better now, a lot more snappy and keeps your attention more. I don't like how the music at the start sounds like it's halfway through the song but maybe that's just me, also the music climaxes after the last shot as the end title screen comes up which doesn't quite feel right.

Only other thing is I'm not sure you should have the opening shot to your film in there, but it might make less sense without? If the music was slow to start then it would fit probably.

I like the deer btw lol.

About the biped diver, I really like that and wouldn't mind knowing what people thought about using them without meshes to show what's going on in more detail as I think I need to do the same with some of my stuff for my showreel, good idea or nay.

Good job ol' chap overall

Cheers, Bull. I totally agree with you about the music,
I like the deer too.

I'd like to find out about what people think of Boped's on show reel as well, is it a good idea??

I've seen a couple of reels using only bipeds that landed jobs. If you manage to show character and a well timed animation then from my experience I don't think it matters. If you can convey a strong sense of emotion through a biped, then why couldn't you do it with any other character?

One reel that comes to mind was in the format of a short film, had very nicely composed shots, good pacing and backgrounds that helped frame the shot, and all characters were bipeds. I thought it worked quite well.

Good luck and nice start.

yeah, this one portrays good character with what is pretty much just a biped character

That is classic animation, love it, very simple in looks, but he is obviously foing for animation, where as someone like me is trying to do it all in the showreel, thats why it works for him and maybe not for me.
