View Full Version : Why does Vue create so many tmp files with network rendering?
4 low 11-05-2008, 07:33 PM When I send a sequence to a farm using, there will be tens of thousands of temp files created for each frame, and those temp files do not go away when the animation is created. Currently there are 45 .tmp files associated with every 1 frame rendered.
I understand the overall basic need for creating a tmp file during the rendering of a frame, but why does the program not remove the .tmp files once the frame has been rendered and saved as a .png, .tga, or .jpg ect?
I really don't like having to delete 10,000+ .tmp files every time I send a render. Is there anything I can do about this?

I believe they are there to facilitate the "RESUME RENDER" menu selection. IF a .TMP was not created you could not stop your render and then RESUME it.

45 tmp-files? are you kidding? ^^
i find up to 300.000 1kb sized temporary files after a render and deleting this files takes alone about 30-60 minutes (my computer is a few weeks old!). i wrote a batch file to clean up the temp-folder(s) after rendering because if you don't do it manually vue will not start after a few crashes (and because vue crashes every few minutes it is very important to clean up).
maybe some of you now say vue cleans its temp-folders for itself. yes, if it doesn't crash during render. which it does on my machine(s) in 9 of 10 render-attempts.

Someone posted elsewhere that their crash problems diminished by shutting off their blasted anti-virus software. I hate that stuff and don't use it on my Vue computer and have few crashes - none yet in 7.

thanks for your reply and especially for your experiences in vue7. unfortunately it doesn't help. i am trying to render a skybox (2400x1200px) for a computer game for 2 weeks an all a got now is about 50% of the image. i rendered it in tiles, and at the time vue also crashes when rendering 50x50 pixel sized tiles. after 10 render-attempts or so i get one finished bitmap out of this crap-software, and maybe have to delete the tile afterwards, because it does not fit.
vue (very unstable environment) rendered 3/4 of all finished parts the same way. but some tiles are brighter, or darker. some are transformed slightly or the distribution of materials has changed. and i am using a scene which was saved/changed the last time two weeks ago..
also the resolution of the output changes with every klick on render-settings oder render-image. i enter 300x100 and get images of somewhere between 297x98 and 303x104 -> ??
i absolutely have no clue with this bug-collection with a side effect of creating nice pictures. i now render my tiles on many computers simultaneously and sometimes i get one out which is usable AND fits. if vue 7 has 1% of the bugs of vue 6.6 every spent minute and dollar is one too much!
