View Full Version : URGENT HELP!Umbrella Animation

Hello Folks,
I was working on my student project. It was modeling and animation of umbrella. I modeled it using 3ds max. I have refered to this link(see below) but my umbrella is not small one. It is like a patio umbrella. So I used a different approach. I modelled it using splines and using crosssection then applied surface modifier on it. I should have told you Cloth,modifier wil kill my computer. I have doe that before for my round table and that won't help for now.

Here comes my problem;its the Animation. I wanted to abimate it by closing/ folding it. That is written on my storey board. But I have no idea.

maybe u shoud try using some cloth modifiers, that will add some realism to it two.

You can use a blend shape, you take the original model, duplicate it. Then on the second model, move the points to where you want them to be in the second stage of the blend shape. Then shift select the models (not sure which order off the top of my head) and choose blendshape in the createDeformers section of animation rack.

You can then use the blendShape editor to slider the model from initial open setting, to it's closed (remodeled) setting. The blendshapes are keyable, so you can set the speed of the animation.

It's worth a look if you can't use cloth, hope that helps!
