looks good, I remember having a plastic model of that car when I was younger. :)

I ordered TAMIYA Kit Car Model. Bought it on Ebay from a guy in Hong Kong for $12 :)
Having something in hand makes modeling so much easier, not to mention the blueprint I got with the car.

I encourage you to market the completed model on TurboSquid.

I love this car. About 10 years ago I developed and marketed a photoetched and machined aluminum detail set for the Tamiya kit. The box art makes you want to do the entire engine compartment no?

Excellent work! No crits at all. It looks perfect.

I modelled the Jaguar XJR-9LM LeMans car that won back in 1980-something. Never did get around to texturing it.

You will be texturing this I assume?

EricCartman

Dangeruss,

You got that right... We will see :)

BgDM,

I will texture it but I will leave that for the finish :) I just bought two books which might help me learn this stuff (Digital Lighting and Rendering, Digital Texturing and Painting).

Nice modeling so far! It looks really nice and clean!
You seem to have good attention to detail. I like it!

I couldn't help but noticing the "Racing Legends" logo.
Do intend to do this model as a real time mesh for the upcoming game, "Racing Legends" by the West brothers, www.west-racing.com? As your model looks now it seems a bit high poly. I would love to se those wireframes! :)

I remember they made the same car as you have done, for their previous project "World Sports Cars" which they sold before they finished. The buyers renamed it to "Total Imerse Racing" or something like that.

Now the West brothers are working on their great project "Racing Legends"
They are intending to rely a great deal on 3 party updaters.

I guess u've heard about it? :wavey:

Anyways keep'm updates comin'! :bounce:

DrSchille,

I know Tony and Chris. I met them in person in LA at E3 show where they were showing World Sports Cars. I even played it. Too bad Empire screwed up :(

So far we don't know what kind of poly count cars RL will handle. This Racing Legends logo is from the Exoto website where you can see this Merc.

Here is an update... I did some more details. This is a mirror test. Some things in the middle are a bit strange due to the vertices not being welded... I said it's a just a test :)

Looking good Eric!

A few crits, If I may...

Aside from the middle vertex weirdness, you may want to check the following bits:

The louvers on the front wheel arches look as if there's some odd smoothing group stuff going on at the outside edges.

The large radii on the forward cowling, above the recess, in front of the windscreen look less smooth than they could be.

The NACA ducts on the rear cowl just inboard of the fenders look a bit shallow to me. I'm going from old memories here, so you have much better reference than I do, but take a look anyway. :)

It looks like the rear wing is just a placeholder right now, Correct?

Again, this really looks great!!

Can we get a wireframe? Pleeeease?

I'm working on my first car right now also and tryign to make it look a bit better. That which you have there looks spectactular compared to what I have so far: http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=69614

What are you modelling/rendering it in?

EricCartman

Lying wont get you anywhere...;)

you've been able to learn the program pretty well then, i've been doing 3d for about a year and would still never attempt something like that,
Great work! keep it up!!

are you going to model an interior?

Cheers,

Here is another quick HDRI test... Going away for the weekend and bringing my two rendering and lighting + texturing and painting books with me. I am clueless when it comes to texturing and lighting :)

RmachucaA,

I talked to Westies a few days ago and here is the deal about polycount:

"well its no so much the number of polys anymore, its the pixel fill rates and all that, if you havea 3d card with lots of ram then poly counts can be very high"

We still don't know, what very high defines? hehe

You said you are building cars for RL as well... Can you show them to me?

Nosalis

What software is it rendered in?

Lw? Max? Light tracer? Final Render or Brazil ? (hope I didn`t miss the right one .. lol.. )

Models looks really nice. It will look great in some kind of racing game. keep up good work, looking forward to see the finish.

3DS Max 5.2 and Brazil.

Nosalis
06-19-2003, 01:49 PM
Hi,

do you have some good tutorial on how to setup brazil? I allways wanted to learn brazil, but it seems slow to me, and the results weren`t that good, as I expected.

I`m using final render, which is IMHO good, but sometimes it makes errors, and I cannot deal with them, that way I want to try something else.

Brazil is the most probbable solution. Do you have some links? Or could you send me some matrials?

Thanx

EricCartman
06-19-2003, 02:33 PM
What I am using are all basic Brazil materials (car paint, glass. chrome).

Here is what you do... set Brazil as your default renderer, put a skylight in the scene and in render options under Luma Server enable skylight. Also enable ground plane (CG something tab). Thats it. if you want smooth edges, set min samples to 1 and max to 2.

graffb,

Are you reffering to the body parts hole? I am gonna pull the edges in, but not just yet.

RmachucaA,

Nice Opel :)

Is this one from the DTM series?

Only worked on it a bit.

I got tired of modelling so I am learning the textures bit now... going sloooooowly.

Anyway, these are just test decals. Gonna make them more detailed when I figure out all the mapping sheit.

Yeah, it`s wonderful.

How did you get that nice shining reflection? Have you some plane above the model or is it just becouse of HDRi ?

EricCartman
07-02-2003, 11:34 AM
Thanks for the positive words guys.

Yes, I used HDRI.

Nosalis
07-02-2003, 11:40 AM
I cannot imagine to get that result only with HDRi ... Maybe I should try Brazil more. I tried it, but render took 1 hour.

The thread on this W.I.P. is located here (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=60433&perpage=15&highlight=skoda&pagenumber=2)

I set it up maybe wrong. I will also try newer version, I used 0.45 i think. Maybe you can help me

EricCartman
07-02-2003, 12:01 PM
What I did is just use the Brazil Advanced Material, set it to Car Metal Paint and used HDRI in the scene. Only skylight. No other lights. Your model looks kickass.

Nosalis
07-02-2003, 01:40 PM
Thanks for both. I`ll try to render it with guidance you gave me. I`ll let you know, when it`ll be done

Here is a little animation test:

Animation (http://www.crystalmadness.com/animation.avi)

You need DivX 5.0.5 to play it (www.divx.com). It's free.

****************************

Here is a track I'll be using for scene shots.

It is Mugello track from GP500 (old bike game).

I will redo the texture and make it more detailed.

EricCartman
08-10-2003, 09:05 PM
As I said in my 1st post, I am 3D dumbass :)

This me doing the textures for the 1st time.

I am just looking for suggestions :)

WChestnutt
08-10-2003, 11:05 PM
well if you want suggestions then i would suggest this...

you need a scene that focuses on your magnificent car, there's too much going on in that scene already, and thats withoput extras. i would go for more of a pit stop scene that focused on the car. but thats just my opinion.

Good luck,

Will

Nosalis
08-11-2003, 07:45 AM
Car have lost its beautiful car pit (reflection) how come?

I would make probbably render with one car, play a bit with lighting and it will be ok. Try also some "interesting" camera view.

I'd say the first one. You need it in colour to properly show off your chrome meterial and nice decals and the second one looks too washed out for my liking.

Why don't you try also getting in close with the camera, try some really harsh crops? I think those kind of images are really interesting. Though for showing off the whole of your excellent model these are good.

Nosalis
