hrm... maybe the original post didn't belong in the flash/animation wip... :D

(Thanks vary much to Orcagirl for giving up the webspace on my behalf)

This is only 20 seconds of the current work in progress.. in all honesty, i'd like not to have to do any more...

Much like everyone (I'm sure) i'd like to just have a job by this point... [yup i'm looking!]...

but if when I get back from Montreal this weekend and return jobless, then of course my plan is to keep adding to this tape.

Hope you enjoy.

I like it....The animation is done well.
Hope my guy's animation comes out as good as yours did.

Model wise, I think The lower leg design works good and flows well with the fluidity of the leg/shin movement.

IMO I think the head design is a bit simplistic but it works. After all...it is a combat droid so it's subjective.

More definition by detailing the shadow areas via texture map may bring out the overall shape better. Some of it's finer details get lost in the lights.

good luck in your job search

Excellent. (thanks)

Actually, truth be told [and i hope it shows] my interest as i was developing this initially was more rigging and animation. In fact the first incarnation of this was purely parented geometry with boxes and mildly modelled details [ack.. ugly] so as far as the model goes... it was sparse.

ultimately, i settled with this... a combination of parented n' smooth binding.

But that wasn't until I completely scrapped the first animation (had two guys fighting... woo-ee pain in the ass.. bit off more than i could chew for my first 3d project :P) that I decided to re-rig, and remodel.

:(... wasn't til then that i felt i had made any development at all.

Unfortunately, I didn't spend much time concentrating on the ins and outs of texturing or lighting. Seems to me that particular aspect of 3d is an art all unto itself and somewhat beyond my $/time limitations [funny how those two go together] to learn to a palatable level... so i focussed on developing my animation skills while i had the time.

But yes... the head is a bit simplistic. I've spent alot of time thinking about different mecha heads and i've ultimately decided that for the most part, the only useful thing on a mecha head are the camera's... the rest would be either decoration/distraction or heat sink maybe...

ah well...
