You're going to have to live with that. The color on the object with the SSS shader isn't representative of the swatch color or render output. It's not really a problem though.

The red in those swatches indicates that mentalray is not set as the renderer. It may be that you also do not have the mayatomr.mll plugin loaded. If you cant see "mentalray" as an option in the renderview dropdown menu, do a check in the plugin manager and check autoload and load.

He's not talking about the red mark in the swatches. He's talking about the object showing as red when the swatch is not.

:)
I think he is reffering to the fact that objects with sss shaders assigned turn red in the viewport...

eikonoklastes you did answer the original question.

I jumped in with my additional answer because I had a hunch, based on the attached image, that there might be another question in the pipeline. Something like "why are objects with sss coming out black when I render?". I didnt mean to imply that you were wrong or anything.

I think it tricks people sometimes when they have been rendering with mr and then one day, due to that plugin loading bug, mr has gone and their shaders dont seem to work.

Gotcha. On the bright side of things, the mr loading bug seems to be sorted in 2009.
