Great work Creeto, I love the style. It's kind of the style I was going for in mine but so much better. Also, the composition is superb.
I want to get better at painting in Photoshop so I thought these daily sketch challenges would be a good place to start. I have been watching these forums and am constantly blown away by what people can do in such a short period of time. I love the messy scratchy look some people use.
Anyway, here's my attempt. I'm not proud of it but I've got to start somewhere.
Done in Photoshop with a mouse and default brushes.

Cool work guys!
@Morlankey - welcome to the n00b club...I'm also trying to improve my photoshop drawing skills, and this is my third submission. I think I've improved a bit in just a few drawings, and I'm sure you'll do the same!
This is about 20 mn, reference used.

Really nice mood, Creeto.

SevenMars - Thanks! Your piece is striking, I like the vibrant hues, it lends to the beautiful side of death, a very different symbolic interpretation.
Wexter - I enjoy the subdued almost monocromatic palette you use. The adventurous narrative quality is awesome too!
im^ - Very cool, almost like a photographic. Nice work!
woadiestyol - Ah, great idea with the raven, I wish I would have thought of that!
Morlankey - Your brushstrokes carry lot of energy...keep busting them out :)
Creeto - Awesome piece, very forlorn and evocative.

A friend of mine introduced me to this thread and I think it's pretty sweet. This is a great way to enhance your skills and stay sharp. I hope to become more comfortable with Photoshop through this daily exercise. Keep at it everyone :)

Hi Guys, some great work here. Great to see that I'm not the only noob to painting here.
I stumbled on Stahlberg's paint-over thread, it's absolute gold. I got about half way through before calling it a night.
Anyway, here's attempt 2, 60 Minutes, I used reference for the tree:
I've been meaning to start participating in the daily sketches and, liking the topic, it seemed a good time to start. I referenced a photo that my husband took of a fallen tree we came across in a forest preserve.
Photoshop, 60 minutes
Hi there, lot's of dead trees ! Very nice work guys !
11-03-2008, 05:58 AM
This Dead tree would act as a cage for the dead... or something to that effect. I spent the whole 60 minutes and did this in my sketchbook with pencil.
