View Full Version : material strange problem - help!
plaguelord 06-12-2003, 05:29 PM Hi, I'm making the following microscope lens, and, I have exactly the same objetc and the same material on the left and on the right, but in the render I have this result: (see first picture).
The solution was copy the correct objetc and delete the bad objetc, and put the new copy in the same place. But, I want to know how this happen.
thanks

I'm sorry.. But what the f*** is your problem.. :p I don't understand the nature of your problem? Is the problem that your objects have moved it's place when you render a scene?
Please explain it more easy. Then I would be glad to help you..
Indeed i'm wondering what it is that you want exactly as i don't quite understand.
I figured it's a mapping problem that you have, thing is i'm not sure i can clearly spot it.
Anyways, if you say that both objects have the same material (check that first), then maybe one of your objects does not have proper mapping coordinates while one has, which would explain why you could solve the problem by copying the "correct" object.

well, to be simple,
the black object is AN EXACT COPY made with mirror option of the good looking object...
there´s no wrong uv maps, no wrong material, no wrong smooth....
Well i don't want to be a smart@ss, but there must be something wrong, since you're pointing to it yourself :p
Also it clearly looks like something's messed up, but it's hard to know what without scene specs.

I´m sure about the problem... ME hehehe, but, later I´ll put the max file to download so you can check it.

you said u used mirror right? what things do you have on the stack of that object... ie any modifiers?
Also does it work if you just duplicate the object?

Well if you mirrored your object then it is NOT an exact copy, since MAX flipped the normals during the process. Take your copy and apply a Reset Xform (in the utility panel). This will flip the normals of your object (which is how max actually sees it). Collapse your stack and go to element sub object mode. Flip the normals again. Now your object should be clean and render like the original.

jed, nothing happend... if I flip the normals I see the objects inside the tube, if I flip again, I see all black...
good objetc:
editable poly
uv map
xform
bad object
same stack > don't work
editable poly colased > don't work
the only temporary solution was use symmetry on the good object

what if you just duplicate the object? ie shift drag
