View Full Version : Chess Tutorial Help - Newbie
fourd 06-12-2003, 03:45 PM I was doing the chess tutorial in the tutorial manual last night, the first two went smooth, the pawn and the rook. The Knight gave me a fit though. I created the main spline of the outline of the horse, then the two profile lines and moved them away for the other spline. I attached the three splines. The next step was to go into Vertice mode and Add ne lines for the cross sections using Vertice snap. Well I did that, then noticed the spline vertices were not actually snapped together. NP, I figured I'ld just weld them. Well, I tried to select a vertice after that and I couldn't select any vertices. I couldn't drag a selection box around any of the vertices, and I couldn't select a vertice singularly either. I tried exiting editing mode and re-entering vertice mode over and over but could never select a vertice again.
Does anyone have a clue of what I could have done wrong? Or if 3DS just was confused?

It is possible you had the object lock on. When you press the spacebar, it locks an object or sub-object so you can't accidently select anything else.
This is just a guess mind you. If you are still having the problem, try pressing the spacebar once.

Yeah I found that was the problem :) I use the spacebar in lw to switch from Vertice to Poly mode...I guess it don't work like that in Max:rolleyes:
lol..
Thanks.

some of the tutorials that come shipped with max are screwed and almost impossible such as that Knight, did it like 5 times and couldn't get it, if you got it i don't know how you did maybe i should try to redo it after 6 months

Yeah. I already can model so I am just trying to relearn the tools and poke around in Max. I don't follow the tutorials to closely, but this one I did and it is messed up. There is a fix at the discreet support site though.
Thanks for the help.
I guess you know that already but you can customize Max's ui and shortcuts, maybe you can somewhat adapt it to fit your LW habits ?

Yeah, but I've only had it 2 days so have yet to do that.
Thanks for reminding me though.
