Title: The First Born (Still Render)
Name: Josh Lennen
Country: USA
Software: After Effects, Maya, mental ray, Photoshop, ZBrush

A still render from the full resolution quicktime movie. The additional renders and animations will be posted soon. I will also post up photographs from the entire show of Vessels of Parasomnia so you can see how these animations were displayed. This animation is also in my portfolio but the riva encoder really darkened all of the animations up. The web based animation for The First Born can be downloaded here:

Each Animation was displayed on an individual LCD TV mounted into cabinets I built myself and the help of a friend. Click below to see images of the gallery and the cabinets!

The art gallery is located in downtown Winston-Salem, NC. Since I was doing only three animations, and the paintings completed by Dane were of a limited quantity, we displayed our work in the upstairs portion of the gallery. Here are some photos as you enter the gallery.

For the display of the animations, I built cabinets to hold LCD TVs.

LinchpinZA: Thank you for the kind words. A lot of people at the show really enjoyed her as well.

kiboSVK: hahaha! yeah, the brain is kind of hard to see. The idea Dane had was that the creature above the head was what protected his open skull, so I just went with it.

The crest on the head was a last minute addition. I unfortunately was unable to retopologize/re-uv the crest section. However, I rendered out the scene at a the second level and with the normals smoothed, it worked just fine for the animation.

I enjoyed retopologizing this one in ZB very much. The tool assets worked very well and produced excellent results.

wow man! models turned out to be awesome. I really love the art show format...I wish we did more stuff like this in Spain. I'm totally looking forward to your next works, your modeling skills are developing uber fast! Congrats! :buttrock:

Jam-I-Am: Thanks for the encouragement. I will try and get some better pictures up here in the next day or two, but also get Dane's work up here as well.

DDS: Thanks a lot man. It has been a crazy ride to make the art show happen. I appreciate your comment. Making and presenting this in a gallery format has made it even more enjoyable. Who's to say you couldn't do this in Spain!?! It was a blast, and presenting it with traditional painting that was inspiration for each one made it even better. That was one thing we wanted to make a focus for the show, for people to realize that it was the collaberative "meeting of the minds" sort of thing that made the works possible.
