How can i use a light so that it doesnt actually light my object, but still shoots light rays into the object to create scattering???


Purpose: I wish to light a scene with HDRI. I dont want the lights that are used to create the scatter, to also illuminate the object on the surface. I was wondering how i might do this?

i should mention that i use both maya and 3ds max, so advice with either would be great
