Hi,

i have problems with creating realistic mirrors. the color(reflection) of upper part of the ring on your left depends on the background color (it is black in the example).
the thing is that i want it to depend directly from the lighting (like the ring with wood texture).

P. S. i'm newbie on 3d modelling and texturing, so sorry for the silly question :)

Exactly how a mirror would behave, right? :)

Some things to improve your image:

- model a bit more of the enviroment, in other words, give your mirror something to reflect!
When a real photographer is shooting a reflecting object, he uses all sorts of tools to create the reflections he wants. White cards, or black cards, to give the object something to reflect.
So put some white objects around it (with a white material set at 100% self illumination) to see how it looks.
Or try a grey to black gradient on the background, that would look good..

Also, your objects look like they have 0% gloss and specular. Try fiddling with these settings in the material editor to see what they do. Giving the ring some specular and gloss will make it better.

If your want really really want great reflections then search the internet for a tutorial how to use falloff (fresnell) maps in conjuction with reflection maps.

On the modelling side: your ring has a very sharp edge on the centre side. Try to avoid that (almost nothing is real life has such sharp edges) Make it a very small curved edge (called a bevel). It will make your object look better, and will also improve your reflections.

Greetings,

Marcel
