Hello everyone,

For some reason I keep getting this following error:

"One cloth and a topologically identical mesh must be selected"

Both meshes are identical. Here are the exact steps I took .

1. Create a cube (cube 1)

2. Duplicate cube ( I made sure to reset to default) (Cube 2)

3. delete all by type history

4. Create ncloth (default settings) (Cube 1)

5. Select ncloth, then select cube 2

6. Create Attract to Matching Mesh

Ive also tried making the other cube Passive. No matter what i do I keep getting the same error. Am I missing a crucial step? Thank you for any help in advance!

Hi,
I'm not sure exactly what you are trying to achieve from using the Attract to Matching Mesh Constraint, but you may be better off just using the Input Mesh Attract attr available in the nClothShape node. So if you're trying to have your object keep its shape as much as possible during the simulation, the Input Mesh Attract should work for you.

Hello Josh, thanks for your help.

What I'm trying to do with the attract to matching mesh constraint is have the the object that is constrained to the mesh also have a tearable surface attribute. I wanted to see if i can recreate an effect that looks like there is a strong windforce peeling away a layer of paint from the solid non-cloth mesh. I have been able to use the constraint before, but for some reason I cant seem to recreate it. If i use the input mesh would i be able to do something similar? It seems like the Input mesh overides the tearable constaint. But im new to ncloth so Im not so certain. Any Ideas?

Ah OK. Well if there are sections that you want to tear from the object just paint a Vertex Map for the Input Mesh Attract attr excluding these areas. So the nCloth will still be able to tear in these areas, but in the other areas it will be attracted to the original mesh. To be honest though, I'm not sure what method would be better for your effect (Input Mesh Attract or Attract to Matching Mesh Constraint). However, I do believe these are both similar in functionality so I would think that Input Mesh Attract would work just fine without having to create another duplicate of your object and use a constraint on the nCloth.

Select cube 1 then cube 2.

Create Attract to Matching Mesh
