View Full Version : object fade in
halogenic139 06-12-2003, 05:33 AM the visibility attribute in maya is either on or off. is there a way to make the visibility slowly increase to make an object fade in? sorry if this is an easy question, but i just can't find the answer any where.

Animate the transparency of the material applied to the object. If it has specular and reflection, you will also need to animate these.

thanks, I just realized that. I forget about the transparency for some reason becuase I was trying to do it with expressions. expressions and materials dont really seem to go together well for me. :hmm:

there are 2 types of fade in tho...
there is the fade in where the object is NEVER see through, just fades in (like from going to dark to light) and then there is the going from like clear to solid (the transparency method)...
if your going for the former rather then the latter, you could easily use composition to fade in the layer that has the object in it.
Cheers,

You should still be able to use expressions on materials just as you could on any other object....
